Ignite the power and potential of each student!

What a truly amazing year of learning and growing we experienced in 2016 - 2017! I hope you are all as proud as I am in the hard work of all District 20 students, faculty, and staff as we worked together to "Ignite the power and potential of each student." As we enter the summer and look forward to the 2017 - 2018 school year, a lot is happening in District 20. From the installation of our new geothermal heating and cooling system at Greenbrook School, to the renovation of student lunch spaces separate from gymnasiums at Greenbrook and Waterbury Schools, to the addition of a chiller system to provide more efficient air conditioning at Spring Wood Middle School, we are ensuring that our facilities are ready to support our students in their learning during the coming year.

This summer we also bid a fond farewell to some well-known faces in District 20. Mr. Craig Barringer, Mr. Mark Bocian, and Mr. Gary Ofisher will all retire on June 30. Their decades of combined service have positively impacted the lives of thousands of District 20 students and we thank them for all they have done to make District 20 a great place to grow and learn. We wish them all the best in their futures!

I hope each and every one of our students and families has a very safe and relaxing summer and I look forward to seeing you all for the start of the 2017 - 2018 school year on Wednesday, August 30, 2017.

Sincerely,
Dr. Michael Connolly
Superintendent

District 20 Bids Fond Farewell to Key Administrators

On June 30, District 20 will say a final goodbye to Gary Ofisher, Director of Operations and Treasurer, Craig Barringer, Spring Wood Middle School Principal and Mark Bocian, Spring Wood Middle School Assistant Principal.

Mr. Ofisher retires after 12 years of service to District 20 and over 40 years as a Chief School Business Official. From producing balanced budgets for 12 years in some of the worst financial times, to increasing fund balances, to successfully completing millions of dollars of capital improvements to district facilities, the entire Keeneyville community owes him a great debt of gratitude.

Mr. Barringer retires after 22 years as principal of Spring Wood Middle School. His never ending passion for ensuring that the children of Spring Wood had a safe and caring learning environment has made Spring Wood Middle School a place where children are growing into well educated, respectful and successful young adults.

Mr. Bocian retires after 21 years of service to Spring Wood Middle School.  His tireless advocacy of social-emotional competency, the absolute need for connection and his non-negotiable commitment to students above all else has made an immeasurable impact on the students of Spring Wood Middle School and District 20.

Director of Student Services Named to Township Board
District 20 is proud to announce that Kim Cline, Director of Student Services, has been named to the newly formed Bloomingdale Township Mental Health Board which was established after the April municipal election. Ms. Cline applied for the volunteer position after local officials, including Keeneyville Superintendent, Dr. Connolly, were asked for recommendations.

"While this is not connected to her official duties in District 20," Dr. Connolly stated,  "it will be great to have Kim as a voice for families and children living in Bloomingdale Township, including those living in District 20."

Students Selected to Present at Tech 2017

Spring Wood Middle School students were invited to present at the annual "Students for the Information Age" TECH 2017 in Springfield. The purpose of TECH 2017 is to raise awareness of the critical role technology plays in preparing students to succeed in today's world, and to demonstrate the need for increased funding for classroom technology.

During the two-hour event, held at the Illinois State Capital, legislators met with students to learn how technology is transforming the way students are learning. The Spring Wood students demonstrated how they utilized an online video program called WeVIDEO to complete a language arts classroom project. While the students shared their project, they also explained how technology helped increase student engagement and class participation.

After attending the event, State Representative Michelle Mussman complimented the Spring Wood group, stating 'what an impressive group of kids!'
