Summer to Heat Up with July Art Walk Huntingdon
Live music, history and local art exhibitions, culinary and interactive experiences highlight 250 years of local history during Art Walk Huntingdon on July 20, 2017.

Art Walk Huntingdon will take place on the third Thursday of every month with the next one on July 20, 2017 during the hours of 5:00-8:00 PM.

The event is an open house format with no defined start or end point. Each participating venue will host an art related special event, performance, or activity. All are invited to create, enjoy, interact, listen and taste the arts during Art Walk Huntingdon. Don't worry if you can't make it everywhere...there is always next month!

The July 20th Art Walk includes:
  • Juniata College Museum of Art will host a digital portrait studio taking portraits for its fall exhibition.
  • Juniata College Sill Business Incubator is hosting an outdoor artists' market "Artists in Plein Air" (in the event of rain, it will move inside the building).
  • Standing Stone Coffee Co.
  • Sweethearts Confectionery invites participants to celebrate National Ice Cream Month by creating their own sundae $.
  • Parks Design and Ink will be doing Spin Art make and take t-shirts $.
  • Stone Town Cafe, Wine Bar and Gallery welcomes guests to stuff their own crepes and enjoy the musical stylings of Izzy BSoul, a "budding young artist" from Nash­ville
  • American Legion Post 24
  • Studio One Fifteen
  • Huntingdon County Arts Council's Art Space is hosting an opening artist reception with painter Shawn McCullough and his exhibition called "Vision Quest."
  • Huntingdon County Historical Society will be showcasing its 250 Years of Huntingdon exhibit
  • Huntingdon County Library will featuring Art of the Carnival. There will be skills toys out to play with and learn; people can learn to do things like spin plates and juggling, along with other things.
  • Gage Mansion Bed & Breakfast will be continuing its Live on the Lawn Concert Series with live music by Nick Miller in the Gazebo located across the street from Mimis.
  • Thompson's Candle Gift Shop will be open and selling 250 Anniversary Coins, books and candles!
  • Mimi's Restaurant & Martini Bar

  Monday Night Group Paddle - Lower Frankstown Branch

Join the Juniata River Paddlers for a group paddle on the lower Frankstown Branch of the Juniata River. Meet at the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company boat launch at 5pm. We will shuttle to either Neff's Bridge on the Alexandria Pike or a private launch on Route 22 (with owner permission) and paddle back to the cars. This will combine the moving water of the lower Frankstown Branch with the flat water of the upper part of Warrior Ridge Dam. After paddling, social hour will be at Paesano's for ice cream.

2017 marks the commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the Founding of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. The Huntingdon County Historical Society plans a gallery exhibit as part of the festivities. The exhibit will include fine art paintings, JC Blair Company artifacts, Native American artifacts, historical documents including early original tavern licenses from Huntingdon, railroad artifacts, old photos over the years, old maps, pottery, textiles, military artifacts and digital display lectures. The exhibit will be June 1st to October 1st, 2017. This outing is open to experienced swimmers with their own kayak or other non-motorized boat. Charcoal Burn at Greenwood Furnace State Park

Come to Greenwood Furnace State Park on Saturday, July 22nd and Sunday, July 23rd for Charcoal Burn. Greenwood Furnace State Park and many volunteers will recreate the lost art of turning wood into charcoal, just as the furnace colliers did over a century ago. The continuous demonstration will begin Saturday morning with preparation of the hearth, stacking of the wood, and covering the pit with leaves and dirt. The lighting off of the pit will take place about 11:00 a.m. The pit will burn continuously into Sunday afternoon, and will end with raking the coal out on Sunday afternoon throughout the burn.
