"Good Soil"
Sunday Sermon

Our sermon series, "The Living God Wants You," looks at the life and teachings of Jesus in Matthew's Gospel. We now come to one of Jesus' most well known parables, "The Parable of the Various Soils" (sometimes known as the Parable of the Sower). All of Jesus' followers are called to be everyday missionaries, right where we are; we are called to be sowers. We should share the Good News as widely and liberally as the Sower in Jesus' teaching, but our focus this week will be on having the spiritual eyes to see where the seed is landing that has the most impact and effect. We are given an invitation to be workers in the Kingdom harvest. We will be viewing one example of how this practically works at The Turquoise Table. You don't want to miss it!

Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23
Worship: 9:00 & 10:30 a.m.

Next Steps Leader Discussion
Sunday, 10:30 a.m.

Pastor Andy and Jill Okimoto are hosting a time for "Next Steps" leaders and others who would like to process ideas about The Turquoise Table video shown in the sermon Sunday morning. You are welcome to come to the Green Classroom after worship at 10:30 a.m. Many of the "Next Steps" leaders have identified what are their Turquoise Tables, and upon reflection, God might speak to others about who God is calling them to be a person-of-peace to, and the means by which those connections might be made.
Pray For Our Community Away
High School Summer Camp

This week, our high school youth are enjoying Hume Lake camp. They leave Sunday morning and return on Saturday afternoon. Please remember them in your prayers throughout the week.
Ladies' Garden Party
July 23, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The Garden Party is an opportunity for the ladies of Saint Matthew to come together for a summer evening of salad, sangria and socializing. The parties are hosted in homes this summer, and we had a fabulous time at our first one and have two more planned. Every lady is invited to come to one, two, or all three of the garden parties. Each guest will bring a topping to share for a green salad so that everyone can create their own sensational summer salad. Register online here or at the Welcome Center on Sunday and we'll contact you prior to the party to let you know where to join in the fun!
Family Game Night
August 11, 6:00-7:30 p.m.

People of all ages are invited to join us for a BBQ dinner and ball games on the lawn. The feature game is the ever-popular 9 Square in the Air. We'll supply BBQ hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks, you bring a side dish to share. Registration is required, register on our website here.
TLC Ride Support Needed
Pleasant Hill/ Martinez area

There is a need for ride support for a Mission Partner who attends the 9:00 a.m. service and lives in the Pleasant Hill/Martinez area near Diablo Valley College. If you are able to occasionally provide ride support, please email Tami Gomez for more information. TLC will help coordinate a schedule. We hope that if several folks are available to help out, the commitment will be less than once a month.
Solar Panels Installed
Classroom roof

Our solar project (on the roof of the blue, green and red classrooms) has been completed and we passed the final inspections this past week, and so now we are beginning to generate over 5/6ths of our own electricity. Special words of thanks to Dave Rower who researched, proposed and shepherded this project from beginning to end, and thanks to you, our congregation for approving this project from which we will be reaping benefits for years to come.
Reminders

Farmer's Market is on Sunday mornings this summer in Fellowship Hall. Funds collected are given to help support local hungry.

"Footsteps of Jesus" Pilgrimage to Israel with Pastor Kevin is June 2-15, 2018. Brochure with daily schedule is here.
