Emergency Repair Program

MAAG, in conjunction with the Delta Human Resource Agency and the Shelby County Housing Department, are currently helping low income elderly homeowners through the Emergency Repair Program. This program, which is funded by the Tennessee Housing Development Agency, provides grants to low income, elderly homeowners who are 60 years or older to correct, repair, or replace an essential system and/or a critical structural problem. The purpose of the program is to provide essential repairs to make the home livable.  

Who should take this course?
  • First-time homebuyers
  • Borrowers who need homebuyer education certificates to qualify for a loan
  • Individuals looking to become more educated about homeownership
  • Homebuyers working with local housing counselors

Grant  Announcements

National Park Service Underrepresented
 Community Grant
In Federal fiscal year 2017, Congress appropriated $500,000 for grants that support the survey, inventory, and designation of historic properties that are associated with communities currently underrepresented in the National Register of Historic Places and among National Historic Landmarks.

The deadline to apply for funding under this grant program is July 31, 2017 at 11:59 PM PST. Interested parties must apply using grants.gov by following the instructions in the  Notice of Funding Opportunity. The opportunity number is P17AS00399. 

Eligible applicants for this funding include Tribal Historic Preservation Offices, Federally Recognized Tribes, Alaska Native Groups, Native Hawaiian Organizations as defined by 54 U.S.C. 300300 et seq., State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs), and  Certified Local Governments (CLGs). Eligible applicants may partner with nonprofits, other local governments, and National Heritage Areas to ensure the broadest inclusion of all communities. The NPS encourages the development of public-private partnerships and robust community engagement leading to projects that will serve as models for communities nationwide.
Grant requests must be at a minimum $15,000 and the maximum request is $50,000. All funded projects must result in:
  • The submission of a new nomination to the National Register of Historic Places or National Historic Landmark program, or
  • An amendment to an existing National Register or National Historic Landmark nomination to include underrepresented communities

Tennessee Department Tourist Development Developmental Co-Op Grant

The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development (TDTD) Developmental Co-Op grant is now available  for FY 2017-18.  The co-op provides tourism organizations the opportunity to expand the impact of their marketing message, increase visitation to their community and increase travel-generated revenue, while leveraging TDTD's brand and marketing efforts/initiatives.

Historic Preservation Announcements 

Historic Preservation Training Opportunity

In this half-day workshop, historic preservation professionals and advocates will provide training to assist Historic Zoning Commissions. While primarily geared towards existing "Certified Local Governments," anyone interested in historic zoning is welcome to attend. Topics will include: 

- The role of historic preservation in downtown revitalization 
- Overview of state enabling legislation for historic zoning 
- The Secretary of the Interior Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties 
-  Successful Examples of the "Certificates of Appropriateness" (COA) process
