Each year the Annual Awards Ceremony highlights individuals with disabilities and disadvantages who have made outstanding achievements in overcoming barriers to employment, as well as those individuals and businesses that have made Goodwill's service to the community possible.

Programs and Services Help Our Neighbors in the Lynchburg Area
 
A recent news story on WSET, stated that, "Lynchburg currently has the highest unemployment rate among metro areas in the state at 4.4 percent." The story went on to talk about the gap between available jobs and skilled workers to fill them. Goodwill is a partner in the Lynchburg region and operates programs to help fill the gap.
Project SEARCH Celebrates Graduates
Youth with Disabilities Graduate in Roanoke and Tazewell

The end of the school year traditionally means graduations for high school seniors. But for 16 students with disabilities enrolled in Goodwill's Project SEARCH in Roanoke and Tazewell, it was also a time of celebration as the graduated from the yearlong program. These young adults have hope for their futures after gaining new experiences and skills to bring into the workforce.

Retail Stores Offer 50% Off Select Clothing

Have you heard the news? Goodwill stores are now offering 50% off clothing tagged with the Color of the Week! When the tag matches the Color of the Week customers will receive 50% off the items with that tag color. Signage throughout the store indicates the Color of the Week for shoppers.
Goodwill Hosts Prom for Individuals in Rocky Mount
Attendees went "To the Moon and Back" at the 2nd Annual Event

On May 19th, the Goodwill in Rocky Mount hosted a Prom for the individuals with disabilities who participate in programs. Parents, caregivers, local businesses in the community, and Goodwill staff worked together to provide an experience that would not soon be forgotten.

Healthcare and Technology Trainings Put People on a Path to a New Career
 
For individuals looking for an opportunity to find more than a job, but a career where they can grow, the healthcare and technology industries offer options for long-term career growth. Goodwill is now offering training in both fields; GoodCare focuses on the healthcare industry and Careers in Technology (CiT) offers programs to begin a career in the technology field. Both programs help students obtain certifications and credentials to prepare them for a career in in-demand jobs.

Angela Stanfill

If you've worked with Goodwill, it's very likely that you've come across Angela Stanfill. She is the Business Development Director for Goodwill's Commercial Services. She helps find the work that is being done by individuals in Goodwill's job training and employment programs through Outsourcing Solutions for area businesses. She is also an avid Goodwill shopper and has become a loyal Goodwill donor.

A teenager in the '60s, I remember the popular Bob Dylan song, "The Times They Are A-Changin'" as the rallying cry for a generation. At times, it seemed impossible that our country would ever come together. But we did and today we continue to see our times changing . . . just in different ways.
