ESI Welcomes its Newest Vice Presidents
ESI is proud to announce the promotion of Daniel Miles to Vice President and Associate Principal and also welcome the arrival of Steve Wray as Vice President and Director. Daniel has been with the firm since 2008 and has led economic analyses across various industries as well as being instrumental in the launch of Thoughtlab. Steve comes to us from the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia, where he was deputy director of research for 11 years and oversaw its policy and research work. Senior Advisor Breakfast

On Tuesday, June 6, our esteemed board of Senior Advisors joined us for an internal breakfast event, where we provided an opportunity for networking among our staff and advisory board members. We discussed our joint ventures and new initiatives including Philadelphia Housing Index, Community Data Analytics, Condo Insight, and ThoughtLab. 
Lee Huang Featured at SBN Best Practice Forum

Lee Huang spoke about Talent Retention during the Sustainable Business Network's Best Practice Forum on June 8. Mr. Huang discussed topics including: the importance of talent retention, compensation packages, work/life balance, office environment, and meaningful work among other topics. 

SBN's Best Practice Forums are a series of workshops that use member case studies to create meaningful opportunities to learn, connect, and build better business. 
SRDC Celebrates their 25th Anniversary

The ESI team celebrated the start of summer with a boat tour of the Schuylkill River! The team had an incredible time discovering the Hidden River and seeing beautiful views of the city. We would like to take this as an opportunity to congratulate our client and friend Schuylkill River Development Corporation (SRDC) on their 25th year anniversary and thank them for their great work in revitalizing the trail. ESI is proud to support SRDC programming and trail maintenance. 
Remembering Peter Javsicas
It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of our friend, Peter Javsicas.   Mr. Javsicas will be remembered for his multi-modal work in transportation and as former executive director of PenTrans. Mr. Javsicas passed away on Tuesday, June 13 from sustained injuries after a motorist jumped the sidewalk curb near 16th Street and JFK Boulevard in Center City.  On June 29, Vision Zero Alliance  and the Javsicas Family hosted a Memorial Walk  in memory of Peter and all victims of traffic violence, and on Ju ly 1, the Javsicas Family hosted a Memorial for friends, family, and colleagues. If you'd like to honor Peter, please consider making a donation to the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia in his memory.

Our work with the Philadelphia Bar Association and the effect of voters receiving information on qualified judicial candidates in Philadelphia was featured in Billy Penn. Jonathan Tannen shared his thoughts on whether this effort made a difference in voting in a  Present Value post. 

Richard Voith  was featured on Another Thing with Larry Mendte and his segment on the unemployment rate specifically within the City of Philadelphia. Dr. Voith discussed job creation and the reasoning behind the jobless rate in the region. 

Philadelphia Business Journal has named the 19146 zip-code which includes Grays Ferry, Schuylkill, Graduate Hospital and Point Breeze as the hottest housing market in Philadelphia. Stephen Mullin and Jonathan Tannen share their insight as to why this area took the top spot in the region. 

The  Center City Proprietors Association (CCPA) named Stephen Mullin as their July 2017 Member of the Month, where they feature members with successful Center City-based businesses.

Bernard Markstein was quoted in this Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) article on the improvement in construction unemployment rates in 22 states. Dr. Markstein also analyzed this month's state employment data for ABC. He was also quoted in AZBigMedia and discussed his analysis on the construction unemployment rate. 

 

Joel Naroff was featured in the Daily Local News about the current state of the economy and the affect that it has on the labor market.
