Consol Energy Inc. on Tuesday laid out plans for the splitting of the company, which will separate the natural gas operations that have become the company's driving force in the past decade and spin out its coal division, whose roots go back more than 150 years.

The city has released a plan to revitallize Pittsburgh's Uptown and West Oakland neighborhoods.

Allegheny County announced Tuesday that it has signed a 20-year lease to relocate its emergency services department and 911 operations center from Point Breeze to a facility in Moon.

Heritage Valley Health System announced Thursday it will build a larger rehabilitation hospital on the site of its existing Sewickley center in a joint venture with health care giant  HealthSouth Corp (NYSE: HLS).

The 44-bed center,  HealthSouth Sewickley on Camp Meeting Road, will stay open while the construction on the new hospital begins in the third quarter of 2017. A regional accreditation agency has rejected Education Management Corp.'s plan to sell the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and Art Institute of Philadelphia to a California-based nonprofit foundation, according to a decision posted on Thursday.

The Philadelphia-based Middle States Council on Higher Education cited "insufficient information and evidence" in denying EDMC's requests at its June 22 meeting. Walnut Capital Partners proposes to renovate a long-empty car dealership property in Oakland into a new 43,000-square-foot office building, a shift in plans from a previous plan by the owner to build apartments on the property.

Working with Strada Architecture LLC, Walnut Capital presented a plan to the Pittsburgh Planning Commission that agenda documents indicate is expected to cost $6 million and bring two large floors of office space to a location on  Craft Place and the Boulevard of the Allies in an Oakland market which has been at near full occupancy in recent years. ..
