ABOUT US

Founded in 1994, the Immunization Action Coalition of Washington (IACW), a program of WithinReach, works to improve the health of the community by minimizing the incidence of vaccine preventable diseases through the optimal use of immunizations across the lifespan. Our priorities for 2017 are catching up toddlers by age three; be a trusted source of timely communication about immunizations; and work with non-traditional partners.

Dear IACW Member,

Summer is often a time for transitions, as students prepare for new schools or new careers and many of us take extra time to travel or be with our families. I'll be making a big transition myself, leaving my role as Immunization Coordinator at WithinReach for a new opportunity. I'll be transitioning out over the next few weeks so please do drop me a line if you have any questions or if I can assist you with anything!

I have learned so much from working with our coalition members over the past five and a half years, and I have the deepest admiration for what each of you does every day to protect families and communities from preventable diseases. Thank you for your partnership in this essential work.

In the meantime, our team has grown with the addition of Izzy Brandstetter, who recently completed her MPH at UW and has experience evaluating our Immunity Community program and investigating mumps cases at UW. Between Izzy and Mackenzie Melton, IACW is going to be in great hands!

We are very excited to share a  new interactive tool to visualize Washington's immunization data, which was created by Katy Cook. You can view data from the National Immunization Survey as well as the Washington State Immunization Information System including completion rates, trends over time, demographic disparities, and more. NEW IMMUNIZATION WEBPAGE FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS AND ADMINISTRATORS FROM DOH
THUMBNAIL image of college immunization flyerThe Washington State Department of Health is excited to announce a new immunization webpage for college students and administrators! Survey findings from the 2016-2017 Washington State College and University Immunization Survey and feedback from a stakeholder meeting with college representatives (convened by IACW) revealed the need for meningococcal disease information and resources for colleges in one centralized location. You can view the new webpage at   www.doh.wa.gov/YouandYourFamily/Immunization/
CollegeStudents. We hope you find these resources useful in campus efforts to decrease the risk of vaccine-preventable diseases among college students and staff.

The website has information about:
  • Washington State's meningococcal education mandate
  • Meningococcal information materials that help colleges comply with the State mandate
  • Meningococcal resources to raise awareness about the disease and how to prevent it among college students
  • Meningococcal maps and charts comparing outbreaks and requirements by state
  • Flu and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) resources to promote flu and HPV vaccination on campus
  • Other resources for college students
DOH welcomes your comments, suggestions, and questions, which you can direct to Leigh Wallis
