We Speak Translate Project

The We Speak Translate project is a first of its kind collaboration between Google Translate and the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA) utilizing the Google Translate app for refugee resettlement and newcomer inclusion in communities.

 Training Goals and Benefits:
  • Encourage welcoming organizations and communities that value diversity, inclusion, and integration
  • Become familiar with the Google Translate app (free, downloadable app for smartphones and tablets)
  • Establish a common platform for communication with immigrant and refugee newcomers while their English language skills develop
On June 14th, a group of Kardel staff welcomed Kate Longpre, Community Integration Coordinator at the ICA and participated
in the 45 minute training session to learn lots of new tricks to improve communication.  It was a fun afternoon of laughter and learning!

If you'd like to learn more about We Speak Translate Training you can contact Kate at the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA)

Lets Talk About Sleep....Again!

Did You Know; plants can help us sleep?

Lavender
We hear talk about  lavender all the time, but it's because it is so versatile - from reducing anxiety to helping you sleep . You can either plant some lavender and keep it by your bed or use some pure lavender essential oil .

Jasmine
Yep, like lavender, jasmine reduces anxiety and helps you sleep when you lie down with the scent in your vicinity.

Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is one of those plants that has 101 (or more) uses, like alleviating burns, strengthening the immune system (with aloe's antioxidants ), and, yes, helping you fall asleep with its calming properties. And, aloe is everywhere these days-there's aloe juice , and you can even get an aloe vera mattress  to help curb insomnia.
