Sign up for the Summer Reading Program
If you haven't done so already, stop by the library to sign up for the summer reading program and pick up a bingo sheet.  We have bingo sheets for Pre-Readers, Readers, Teens and Adults.   When you get bingo, you win a prize!

Summer Reading Program Events
Throughout the summer, the library will be hosting various fun events every Thursday morning at 10:30am.  Fun for all ages.
July 6th - Roger Carroll, Ventriloquist - Our very own Loomis finance director and town treasurer will entertain the children with a ventriloquist show.
July 13th - Fruit Crate Label presentation and contest - In recognition of the Loomis area's agricultural heritage, the Loomis Basin Historical Society will have a display at the library on the history and importance of the fruit industry, according to Ed Horton of the LBHS. Vintage fruit crate labels used by farmers to identify, promote and ship their fruit will be part of the presentation. Those who wish can also design their own fruit labels and enter a contest

Historical Society Program - Jump Start Your Family History Research: An Introduction to Genealogy
Take a fascinating journey into your family's past. With the digitization and database indexing of historical documents, getting started researching your family history is fun and easy - if you know where to look and what to look for. Genealogist Barbara Leak will present a strategy to jump start your journey and identify the first five generations of your ancestors.

Getting Familiar with Social Media
This is a gentle introduction into the different forms of social media. Learn about Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and others. Learn what's the buzz about all the buzz.

Lend a Heart / Read to a Dog Program
Please join us the 4th Saturday each month when Lend a Heart bring their sweet, therapy-trained dogs to the library so kids can practice their reading skills and build confidence with a kind, furry friend. We're grateful to local dentist, Dr. Baldonado and his friend Peanut, for organizing this wonderful program!

*FREE* Tech Help at the Loomis Library
Get  your or your friends/family's technical questions answered by our Encore fellow, Eric. His bio can be found here:http://tinyurl.com/zv8qhwj.  Iphones, Ipads, e-readers, computers or even the Internet.  "No questoin is too simple".  He will be available at the library generally 2pm-5pm Thursday-Saturday.  Drop in (call ahead to see if he is in) or make an appointment (916) 812-2237.

Loomis Library Page Turners (book club) - Cleopatra: A Life
Our new book club is the Loomis Library Page Turners! We meed every other month to discuss the book of the month.
This month's book is 'Cleopatra: A Life' by Stacy Schiff. You can find more details here:   http://www.stacyschiff.com/cleopatra-a-life.html
We meet at the library every other third Thursday at 7:00 PM. Feel free to bring a snack or beverage. Please RSVP to Janet at [email protected].

Placer County Genealogical Society presents Genetic Genealogy Workshops
Starting in September, Carol Dove of the Placer County Genealogical Society will be offering DNA workshops the first and third Thursday of every month from 10 a.m. - Noon at the Loomis Library Jesse Helms Community Room. She is planning to offer introductory concepts on the first Thursday of each month (Beginners) and more hands-on tools and advanced concepts for the second Thursday of each month (Intermediate - Advanced). These workshops will continue through the end of the year with just one workshop in December.
Sign ups are required, as space is limited . Reservations start for the general public on July 25 and will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. Please contact Carol Dove via email ([email protected]) and a reservation form will be sent to you.
