Taking our Books On the Road
this Summer
This July, three out of our four events are taking place "off-site," giving us a chance to step out of the store and take some of our books on field trips. We hope we'll see you at the Greensboro Free Library, Jeudevine Falls, and of course at The Galaxy Bookshop this month!
At the Greensboro Free Library:
Susan Bickford,
A Short Time to Die
July 6, 7 p.m.

The Greensboro Free Library will host a reading with novelist Susan Bickford. Her debut novel is a thriller in which the dark and terrible secrets of one powerful family reach across the country and hold more than one generation in a grip of fear.
The Galaxy Bookshop will be on hand with copies of  A Short Time to Die for sale.

First Friday Book Signing:
Tyrone Shaw, Bastard Republic    July 7, 5 p.m.

Joining downtown Hardwick's First Friday festivities will be local author Tyrone Shaw, visiting The Galaxy Bookshop for a meet & greet and signing of his book  Bastard Republic: Encounters Along the Tattered Edge of Fallen Empire.
In the best traditions of literary journalism,  Bastard Republic takes us inside two of the defining developments of the 20 th century-the collapse of communism in Europe and the implosion of the Soviet Union.  Through a compelling mix of memoir, reportage, history and travel writing, this collection of immersion essays accomplishes what facts alone cannot by drawing us into the lives of people propelled towards a future of sudden, rough transformation.

Announcing
The Galaxy Grandparents' Club
Beginning July 6th,  all grandparents are invited to sign up for our new Galaxy Grandparents' Club. Show us a picture of your grandchild or grandchildren (or great-grandchildren!), and we'll give you a membership card granting you a 20% discount on all children's and young adult books, every Thursday at The Galaxy Bookshop.

This is our way of saying thanks for sharing your love of books with a whole new generation of readers.
Get Your Game On!

We're adding a few games to our mix of sidelines this summer, starting with Tenzi and Slapzi. These are two fast paced games that are fun for all ages. Tenzi is an incredibly simple dice game, while Slapzi involves matching photo and clue cards and requires quick thinking and quick hands.

Want to try them out for yourself? We have demos on hand, and our booksellers are almost always up for a game!
Summer Reading - the "Now In Paperback" Edition!

Homegoing, the debut novel by Yaa Gyasi, won the PEN/Hemmingway award and numerous other accolades as a hardcover publication. It also landed at the top of several of our booksellers' "Best Books of the Year" lists. We're thrilled that this story of two Ghanaian sisters and their descendants is now available in paperback. It is a novel that will stay with you long after you've put it down.
Here are a few more titles that we loved in hardcover, now available in lighter-weight, travel-friendly paperback!
