37th Biennial LWML Convention
|
|
The Lutheran Women's Missionary League is the official women's auxiliary of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS). It has as its "mission heart" thousands of volunteers who are daily dedicating their lives to making a difference in this world. The LWML met for their 37th Biennial Convention in Albuquerque, NM from June 22-25, 2017. The convention theme was: "Jesus Christ Above All".
Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name. Philippians 2:9

The unveiling of the new LWML logo, first revealed on Friday, June 23, 2017 at the 37th Biennial LWML Convention in Albuquerque, NM.
Meaning of the logo:
The heart of God is behind all that we are and do. He has loved us so. Seen in His only begotten Son. His cross and sacrifice. His cherished blood for us. Shed for the forgiveness of sins. Therefore we lift high the cross of Christ, guiding our thanks and praise and service. So that His heart is impressed upon our own and by the Spirit we are blessed with joy and peace.
Our prayer is that this design will get people to take a new look or even a first look at LWML-Lutheran Women in Mission and will give our faithful members a sense that their organization is looking towards the future and ready for 75 more years of mission outreach.

ServeLocal, Epic Church, Shelby Township, MI, was spreading the Lord's love and giving out groceries on Sunday, June 25, 2017. They even finished before the rain! Additionally, on Saturday, June 24, 2017, Epic hosted a community BBQ with Mammoth Baptist Church.

Medical Abortions Are Now Reversible!
In any given year in America, 18-25% of the abortions that occur are known as medical abortions. Medical abortions are administered during the first 10 weeks of pregnancy through the ingestion of 2 pills, commonly referred to as RU-486. Each year medial abortions account for 200,000-300,000 of the abortions that take place in our country. But there is hope!
Many times after receiving the first RU-486 pill, Mifepristone, women will immediately change their mind. Some tell stories of despair or trying to throw the pill back up. Thankfully in 2006 a doctor in North Carolina, Dr. Matthew Harrison (no, not that one), came up with a way to counteract this first RU-486 pill. What was born was the Abortion Pill Reversal (APR). Today, if a woman who has taken the first RU-486 pill, Mifepristone, changes her mind, she can begin receiving Progesterone injections through the Abortion Pill Reversal kit, and still bring her child to term healthily. In fact, over the past three years of this treatment, over 300 pregnancies have been saved resulting in fully functioning and healthy children. What is most important though is that women need to begin receiving treatments within 72 hours of taking the first RU-486 pill. Time is of the essence and that is where you come in!
HUMAN CARE WORK YOU OR YOUR CHURCH CAN DO
- Let doctors, nurses, or medical professionals in your congregation know about this new ARP kit that is available. They could have it on hand in their medical clinic in cases of emergency.
- Consider calling local health and medical clinics and see if they are interested receiving more information about this medical kit.
- Contact your local pregnancy center. Have they heard about the APR? Do they have a medical doctor they work with who would be willing to have a APR kit on hand?
- PR is in need of nurses to help staff their 24 hotline to field calls from women desperately wanting to reverse their medical abortion. They are willing to take nurses from your local congregation. Call them up and receive training to volunteer your medical skills in this way.
- Get together as a congregation and take on a human care project to purchase one of these kits ($500-600) for use in your local community. Literally, your dollars could save a life!

You can request brochures be sent to you to use in speaking to medical professionals in your community or handing out at local clinics. Lastly, there are many great youtube videos that feature women who have continued their pregnancies and brought healthy babies to term after receiving treatments using the APR kits. Go to youtube and search Abortion Pill Reversal for videos of this.
Consider making it a human care project on your own, or with your local LFL chapter, or by a group in your congregation. Let's reverse abortions together!

Meet Kevin. Kevin's wife, Maggie, the former executive director of LCMS Life and Health Ministry, passed away Sept. 25, 2015, from a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor. But cancer and treatments, exhaustion and pain didn't silence her r change her stance. And it hasn't quieted her husband and daughters either.

National Youth Gathering #NYG2019

The 2019 LCMS Youth Gathering provides thousands of youth and adults the opportunity to come together as a community of God's people to learn more about Jesus Christ, the Christian faith and their Lutheran identity. The next Gathering will be under the theme "Real. Present. God." The theme is rooted in Psalm 46.
During the five days of the Gathering, youth spend time together in God's word, worship, service, and fellowship with others from across the synod. This event is organized by
LCMS Youth Ministry in Saint Louis, MO.

Supreme Court Delivers Landmark Ruling in Favor of LCMS Church Preschool

The U.S. Supreme Court handed down its ruling June 26, 2017 in the case of a LCMS church preschool, determining 7-2 that the state of Missouri's barring of the church from a government aid program was unconstitutional.

A free conference will be held Wednesday-Friday, October 11-13, 2017 for pastors, other called workers and lay volunteers. St. Peter's in Columbus, IN, will host this event in which various congregations and ministries will share "Best Practices for Ministry." While this fall conference shares goals with the winter conference held in Phoenix, this is the "Heartlands" version.
