CASI - Carson Animal Services Initiative

~ CASI Chronicles ~
Not all of us can do great things.
But we can all do small things with great love.
                                              ~ Mother Teresa
CASI has had so much to celebrate over the last couple of years, and we are truly grateful.  Yet through all the joyous times, there is always the underlying knowledge that there's more to do, and in spite of the successes, it's easy to get discouraged.  I for one hold tight to the happy endings, while grieving for animals that we aren't able to help.  I also think about   Mother Teresa's words a lot.
The sadness that comes when we see animals suffering can feel too big to manage, yet imagine what
can happen if we keep in mind that
every act of kindness makes a difference, even if only briefly.
In our own community we have seen what the power of compassion can do!   Thousands of small actions led to the building of our new animal shelter, and the momentum has just begun.   I'm confident that together we will continue to improve the lives of our furry friends, simply through acting with great love.                               With Gratitude ~ Lisa
A bit more fun for the play yard!!
We are so excited about the shelter's new play yard.
What a journey this has been, and with your help we did it.
A big thank you to father/son team Chuck and Jordan Crittendan for  assembling and installing the new activity ramp.
Of course, there are a few more surprises for the area,
but the shelter pooches have this to say...
"Arf, Bark, Woof!"  (translation ~ We Love It!)

To everyone who helped with this project through donations, labor,
planning, and ideas...Thank You!!
  Barracuda Golf Tournament,
July 31-August 6, 2017
Once again, CASI will be staffing the admissions trailer and w e still have a few shifts available.
Not only is it a great time, but the volunteer swag is pretty awesome.  It includes two 5-day tournament passes to share, a volunteer appreciation night (dinner and drinks), meals for each shift, and CASI gets a nice donation from the tournament!
If you have 4 hours to spare for a really fun volunteer opportunity, please go to barracudachampionship.com, click "register now" then "register here" then scroll down to CASI.  From there you can choose what days and shifts you would like to volunteer.  Thank you in advance!

~ CASI Critter Fixer! ~
CASI has launched its pilot spay/neuter voucher program to help low income pet owners.    Thank you Lone Mountain Veterinary Hospital, Quail Ridge Animal Hospital, and Sierra Veterinary Hospital for being a part of this really important team!

CASI Critter Fixer
A Low-Cost Spay Neuter Program for Low-Income Pet Owners

The Carson Animal Services Initiative is making low-cost spay neuter vouchers available to low-income pet owners in the Carson City area.  The vouchers can be used at participating veterinarian offices.  This will allow low-income pet owners to have a cat spayed or neutered for only $25 and a dog for $50.
If your ZIPCODE begins with 897 and you participate in any of the following benefit programs, you're eligible for CASI Critter Fixer:
  • NV Checkup
  • Medicaid
  • Social Security Disability
  • SNAP/Quest card (food stamps)
  • Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
  • Approval of your child's free or low cost school lunch
  • Current Unemployment Insurance recipient verification
If you don't participate in any of these benefits, but your income is below $1,485 per month, you may still qualify for this low-cost spay/neuter program.
Through CASI Critter Fixer, you can get a voucher to help pay the cost of spaying/neutering your dogs or cats and get them vaccinated for rabies if they need it.   To learn more, just call 775-400-7379.
Congratulations to Pups Graduate, Anvil!

"Hi, I'm two and a half year old Anvil!  I'm a recent graduate of the PUPS Program, where I was trained by a special team at the prison.  Yep, I helped them and they helped me.
I now know commands, how to properly be around other dogs, greet people and more!  I respect the space of others and I aim to please.  (I even have a journal tracking my accomplishments!) I may look tough, but I'm a good dog and all I want is a forever home.  Please come by and say hello!
