Summer is the time we re-connect with our families, our children have new experiences, and we gather with friends with no agenda other than to build friendships and share memories. Summer at Calvary will be quietly busy, as you prepare to welcome your new Rector. 
 
Here are some ways to stay connected with your Calvary family during the summer:
  • Worship: Childcare will be available every Sunday, 9:45-11:15.
  • Collecting Recyclables: Our recycling project will continue through the summer. You can drop off returnable cans and bottles at Calvary, or bring them to the recycling center at 2790 Sheridan Dr Tonawanda, NY 14150 and designate Calvary as the recipient, or you can bring them to Wegmans and donate the money earned to Calvary. Your family might stop by Calvary and pick up returnables that are piling up in our bins by the parking lot entrance. This project is both an environmental service project and a fundraising project for CYM programs.
  • Photo Journal: Take some time every day to take a photo of something beautiful, something that makes you smile, something that reminds you that God is in our lives. You may send the photos to Calvary ([email protected]) and we'll have a website summer photo journal. Watch our Facebook page for pictures, too. (If you take pictures of people, please be sure that we have photo permissions on file.)
  • Gratitude Journal: Take a few minutes every day to write one thing for which you are grateful. This can be a family journal - each person writes what comes to mind - or each family member might have their own. If you have thoughts to share, send them to Alice Brown to be posted on Facebook and our website.
  • Walk off Hunger - July 29th 10 am-2 pm  Island Park - Watch the Announcements and our website for information about how families can participate in this important event that's fun and makes a huge difference in the lives of thousands of people in our region.
  • Sleep Away Camp - August 13-16 - Sleep Away Camp, sponsored by the diocese and held at Lake Chautauqua Lutheran Camp, is designed for children ages 8-12. Sleep Away Campers will have opportunities to canoe, swim, do an adventure rope course, play gaga ball, sing, create arts and crafts, worship, and learn more about God!   • Vacation Bible Schools - Consider enrolling your children in a local Vacation Bible School.  Here are 2 options to explore:

Coins for Cure 
At Drake Elementary school in North Tonawanda, Olivia Fleming was the first recipient of the "Making a Difference" award, to recognize her work for the Calvary Coins Can Cure Cancer program. Thank you to everyone who has been contributing!

Community Service 

Calvary will provide certification that you have completed Community Service hours. Click HERE for a copy of our Community Service Certificate, and contact the project coordinator listed below to make arrangements.
  • We will continue collecting returnable bottles and cans as an ongoing service project. We welcome the help of volunteers to sort and deliver these to the recycling center. Please contact Emily Sityar to confirm.
  •  Grounds - Volunteers are needed to plant flowers in the Courtyard and to help with 3 Eagle Scout Projects this summer. Please contact Paul McKenna and Jim Molenda to learn more.
  • Walk off Hunger - Please contact Bill Clark or Janet Mather.
  • Williamsville Village Events - Contact Joan Scalfani for schedule and duties
  • Sunday School Rooms - We need to re-organize closets and prepare donations of supplies we don't use. Please contact Emily Sityar.

I will go to the altar of God / To the God of my joy and gladness.

Acolytes actively assist the clergy in leading the worship of God. Acolytes often find their service is not only fun, but also spiritually fulfilling. They learn to serve with dignity, humility, and care, always with love of Christ. We welcome you to this ministry if you are in 4th grade or higher. We work with your schedule: it's not an "every Sunday" commitment, and you will get training and practice so that you will feel comfortable at the altar. Acolytes are currently on summer break.
