Happy Summer!
Friends,

We're just wrapping up our second week of summer camp and the second sea kayaking trip returned from Catalina last night: more than 160 campers have experienced adventure and wallowed in the beauty of creation at Camp Stevens in just two weeks! (To see pictures of camper groups and wilderness trips, visit our Facebook page.)

If your child or a child you know is hoping to come to camp, it's not too late. We have room in all our remaining Adventure Sessions for more campers, including International Odyssey August 6 - 12. Registration closes for each session the Wednesday prior to session start. Head on over to our website to register or call 760/765-0028 for more information.

Also below, check out opportunities to host a Japanese camper (or more!), work at Camp Stevens starting at August, and support the mission of Camp Stevens through Amazon or by donating annually or monthly. (Those smaller monthly gifts really add up!)

As always, please keep Camp Stevens and our staff, counselors and campers, in your thoughts and prayers this summer. And don't forget to find your own adventure!

With gratitude,

During the month of June, our Counselors-in-Training were joined by 150 chicks and 6 baby pigs! Camp Stevens animal husbandry program helps us engage campers and retreat guests in environmental sustainability and food justice and will provide lots of eggs in just a few months.

Register today - It's not too late!
Registration is still open for Adventure Sessions 4 and 5 and for International Odyssey. We want the children in YOUR life to experience connection with peers and caring adults, a sense of wonder, and the freedom to be a kid at camp! Earlier this summer, one camper wrote:

"I feel really transformed by this experience ...
it made me feel as if I was home."

With hundreds of acres of forests, meadows, and natural landscapes to explore, Camp Stevens uses a small group model to encourage meaningful and fun adventure. The campers help design the experience, so no two days are alike and no two summers are the same.

Host a Japanese camper
Since 1978, students from Japan have joined the Camp Stevens community at the end of the summer as part of their English and American immersion program. This summer, 32 Japanese boys from Rikkyo School have registered for International Odyssey.

Help us round out their experience by hosting a Japanese camper (or two or three!) in your home August  12 - 14. As of today, we still need 10 families willing to host 2 campers each. Email Tonie at registrar@campstevens.org for more information.

Students have their own spending money and are guaranteed to enjoy whatever experiences you provide them: family meals, the beach, museums, the movies, and even Disneyland or Sea World! Have a camper attending anytime this summer? Receive $50 off registration for hosting!

Welcome, Tonie!
Please join us in welcoming Tonie Quigley to the Camp Stevens community! In addition to camp/program registration, Tonie will be managing the retreat center - from scheduling and contracts to making sure all our guests have everything they need while they're here.

Tonie comes to Camp Stevens from the far north of the state as a native Californian. Having lived in Sonoma County for over 30 years years, and intrigued with the high desert area, Camp Stevens offered her the opportunity to work and live in just that climate. With almost ten years in the camping industry, and many more in the financial arena her experience and skill set were just what was needed in the role of Guest Retreat Manager. Her desire to serve guests from start to finish, and to assure that they have an unforgettable experience at camp settles well with the mission of Camp Stevens. In her spare time, Tonie likes to spend time exploring the new area that she is living in with her dog Shadow, running trails, practicing yoga, swimming, reading, sewing, and gardening.
Let's Build Bergstrom!
Lots of progress is being made toward building Bergstrom Lodge. Thanks to the incredible construction crew (and lots of ice water on these hot days), the two lodge room buildings are framed and covered and the foundation for the meeting/conference room building has been dug.

The Bergstrom Lodge, which will provide private, comfortable accommodations to guest groups and honor the leadership legacy of Peter and Vicki Bergstrom, is set to open by the end of the year.

To support this important and exciting project, visit www.campstevens.org/bergstromlodge today! To see the project unfold for yourself, call Beth at the Camp Stevens office to set up a tour (760/765-0028).
Give today
We're well on our way to our fundraising goal and every gift makes a difference. Join friends and alumni of Camp Stevens and send your donation today! www.campstevens.org/bergstrom
