JUNE HIGHLIGHTS
GrapeVine Helps with Million HeartsĀ® Initiative

(Picture from Milwaukee Session)
Throughout June, WWHF's GrapeVine program has been partnering with the Wisconsin Community Health Fund and Wisconsin Public Health Departments to share heart health information across the state. The goal is to increase cardiovascular disease prevention by reaching both rural and urban sites with our "Heart Health: Know Your Numbers" unit.

In total, we will have traveled to seven different counties, including Adams, Green, Iowa, LaFayette, MIlwaukee, Outagamie, and St, Croix, to share valuable heart health information with local residents. Below are comments from participants and what they have learned:

"Your health begins with your efforts. Some health concerns are preventable."

"Small lifestyle changes make a big difference."

"Prevention IS taking care of yourself."

First Breath Success Stories

First Breath Health Educators work incredibly hard to provide evidence-based cessation counseling to help pregnant women quit smoking. As a result, there are women and family members across Wisconsin who have successfully kicked the habit. By sharing their experiences, we hope to inspire others to quit smoking.

Please check out two of First Breath's newest success stories, and feel free to share with others!

Health Tips for "Mom Brain"

To acknowledge Alzheimer's Awareness Month, we went back to the recording booth for Episode 7 of The MotherPod. This month featured Dr. Elizabeth Chapman, Clinical Assistant Professor in the UW Division of Geriatrics. The focus was brain health and important information that all mothers should know:
  • Most common myths about brain health and aging
  • Advice on reducing the risk of cognitive decline
  • Specific steps that Dr. Chapman has taken to protect her own brain health
(Kayla Thomas interviewing Dr. Chapman)
