  • The next issue of The Seasons newsletter will be mailed out toward the end of August. The deadline for submission of items to be included is Friday, August 11. Please use Fall Seasons in the subject line - email to [email protected].
  •  Suitcase Drive continues.
  • Water: It makes a big difference.
Everyone who comes to ESS for lunch - and a break from the heat - is offered a bottle of cold water as he or she leaves. YOU ARE the SOURCE. Please bring a pack of water bottles (any size) when you come to St. James this summer.

  • Thanks to mowing and trimming by several volunteer parishioners, the St. James lawn is looking good.  However, many of our church's gardens are in need of attention. We urgently need a volunteer to organize and oversee the upkeep of all of our gardens. Fortunately, this summer, Ian Moore and other Boy Scouts will be renovating many of our gardens as part of their Eagle Scout project. If you are interested in overseeing this work and leading the way for the maintenance of the other gardens, please give the Jr. Warden, Woody Swain, a call at 687-0215.

An amazing event for youth entering grades 9-12 who have a heart for mission work-or who would like to explore what mission work is and learn about and work with the ministries at Episcopal Social Services, Episcopal Migration Ministry, St. Francis Community Services and possibly the Filling the Gap feeding program. Twenty of these hours can be counted towards service-related requirements for school or elsewhere. Participants will be housed at St. John's Episcopal church during the week. Cost is $100. Partial scholarships are available for St. James youth. Please contact Deacon Peg Flynn, chaplain for the event, at [email protected] or go to MissionWichita for High School Youth

Word for the Week ~ Roots

The prayers that come from our hearts, and the meditations that we make, are like roots that trees send down into the earth to draw up nourishment. They are our means of spiritual nourishment that enable us to put our trust in God and share God's love with others, bearing fruit for God.

Listening
Bishop Search Committee invites all to Listening Sessions
The Search Committee invites all Episcopalians to participate in one of the upcoming listening sessions to discuss your hopes, dreams and expectations for the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas and our next bishop. Your voice is needed so we may accurately represent who we are-in all our diversity as a diocese-to the Episcopal Church and prospective nominees for bishop. Participating in a listening session will help us develop a survey instrument that will be administered to clergy and laity throughout the diocese in the coming weeks and, ultimately, will help us write the narrative for the diocese's profile. Please come!
