Mala beads, or prayer beads, are a string of beads used in various religious traditions such as  Hinduism Buddhism Christianity Islam Sikhism  an d the  Bahá'í Faith  to mark the repetitions of  prayers chants  or devotions. They are used for keeping count while reciting, chanting, or mentally repeating a mantra or the name or names of a deity

Buddhist malas are often made up of different types of wood, such as sandalwood and rosewood. In Hinduism, you will find malas made with rudraksha, w hich is considered a very holy and protective seed.  There are several mala styles and are typically made with 18, 27, 54 or 108 beads.

Prayer beads can also simply be a beautiful reminder of your intentions e ven if you don't subscribe to any particular faith or practice. Malas can be made from a wide variety of gemstones with spiritual properties that can match the intention of your practice, and often they are placed in shrines as a reminder of affirmations.
