PSTC Launches Second Phase of Research Focused on Decision-Drivers for PSA Tape Usage

High growth potential for PSA tape use in building and construction warrants deeper industry research to identify tape's capabilities in multiple applications.

In November 2016, PSTC released an in-depth research report that identified the underlying biases, behaviors and decision drivers influencing pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) tape usage in a range of markets.

Significantly, the report indicated high growth potential for PSA tape use within the building and construction industry. This finding led to PSTC launching Phase II of their research study in 2017, beginning with a survey focused on specific construction applications where PSA tape can be used as well as those factors that may influence choosing tape for various bonding projects.

"Through further surveying architects and builders, the second part of our research is a deeper dive that will result in providing statistical information that identifies benefits, barriers, and drivers to using PSA tape," said Michel Merkx, president of PSTC.

"Our goal for embarking on Phase II will be to deliver quantitative data that will help those in the building and construction industry to fully understand what tape is capable of when used in a wide range of applications."

2017 Carl Dahlquist Award recipient named
PSTC named Peter Gabriele, Vice President of Corporate Technology Development at Secant Group, recipient of its coveted 2017 Carl Dahlquist Award. The award is named for innovator Dahlquist, who developed the Dahlquist "Criterion of Tack," which determines if the modulus value of a material necessary is low enough and tacky enough to be considered a pressure sensitive adhesive.

PSTC presents the Dahlquist Award to one speaker during its annual technical conference who, following the evaluation of a panel of judges, demonstrates the very best in research relating to adhesive tape technology. The selection covers a range of criteria, concentrating on originality and scientific contribution, but also includes presentation and quality of visuals.

Gabriele  presented LASER DIRECTED INFRARED ANALYSIS (LDIR): A New IR Imaging Technology to Study Functional Group Spatial Relationships in PSA Adhesive Surfaces at the PSTC TECH 40 technical seminar, which took place May 17-19 at PSTC's Tape Summit in Las Vegas
