Letting Go of Neo-Liberalism: Religious Lessons from Global Politics
Service Leader: Emrys Staton
Sunday, July 16, 10:30 AM
As the theology of UU-ism has often tracked progressive politics in the US, what does the shift of global liberal values mean for religious liberal values? (based on a meme/tweet: "'Diversity and inclusion' is a neo-liberal value. I'm here for de-colonization and reparations").

Lessons from Sculptors and the Skin Horse
Service Leader:
Reverend Kathy Baughman

Sunday, July 23, 10:30 AM
Richard Rohr, contemplative Franciscan friar, says that "all great spirituality is about letting go." We will explore the concept of "letting go," which is a strong component of Eastern and 12-Step spiritualities. We start "letting go" at birth when we leave the womb, and it continues right up until we die when we surrender to leaving existence as we know it. Given that "letting go" is a life task that we will be asked to do again and again, this sermon will explore it as a spiritual practice, one that helps us clear away non-essential clutter so that authentic, life-affirming possibility can be realized in life.
Book Group
Sunday, July 23, at 9:00 AM in Annex B
The Book Group engages in informal discussions of a variety of books. We typically discuss recent nonfiction books on topics such as science, religion, sociology, history, current events, environmental issues and justice, but we don't exclude fiction. Books we read are proposed by the members and voted on by the group. We typically spend 4 to 8 weeks on a book, discussing portions as we read. For more information, contact Mike Peterson at 602-943-9543, or come to one of our Sunday meetings.

Open (Drop-In) Small Group
Thursday, July 20, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM in Annex B
Facilitator:  Joan O'Connor
Small Group Ministry is an ideal way to connect to others and tend to your heart and spirit at UUCP.  Life can feel like a frenzied struggle against a materialistic world, which leaves us feeling disconnected from our deepest selves and without the energy to reach out in love and service to others. They follow the monthly worship themes and offer a way to engage the themes in your daily life and grow and learn with a group while sharing your own story, insights and learnings.

Parent(s) of Young(er) Children Small Group
Saturday, July 22, at 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
The Parents of Young(er) Children Small Group is a drop-in friendly group that meets twice per month: on the second Thursday, 6:45 - 8:15 PM, and the Fourth Saturday, 3 -4:30 PM. We welcome all members and friends/participants of UUCP, who are in a parenting role to little ones, to join our village. The Saturday group will include the kids in a new-to-UUCP family-style Small Group. We will still have a chalice and a check-in and conversation around the congregational theme, but the structure of this group will inevitably be looser and welcoming of the small people in the space, as life with kids necessitates. Please feel free to contact Janine with any and all questions at [email protected], or check out our Facebook group.

Pathway to Membership is a class that invites you to meet with other folks considering membership, and hear more from ministers, leaders, and recently-joined members about what it means to be a member of our congregation. You will have the opportunity to learn about the history of Unitarian Universalism and UUCP, get to know each other in groups, and ask questions.
The class ends with an invitation to join by signing the membership book and pledging your support. There is no pressure to join. We recognize membership is a commitment, and we hope people will take their time before joining.
To register, stop by the welcome table in the lobby and fill out the registration, register on the UUCP website, or contact Janine Gelsinger.
