Jismaly's Advice for Bottom Line Alumni

"In order to pass along career advice to the Bottom Line Alumni community, it is important for me to reflect back on how I got to where I am today. Throughout high school, college and today, my support systems have always managed to expand beyond my family and friends. Fortunately, my supports included a variety of amazing organizations, such as Bottom Line, where my personal and professional network grew. With that being said, I encourage all Bottom Line alumni to expand their horizons by seeking new opportunities through creating meaningful networks with those that surround them. Growth happens the moment you step outside of your comfort zone!"

Event Recap
Bottom Line's 20th Anniversary Alumni Reunion
On June 17th, Bottom Line's National Alumni Board hosted an alumni reunion to commemorate Bottom Line's 20th Anniversary. We had over 60 people attend the event, which featured fun, food, raffles, and an opportunity for  classmates, old friends, counselors and staff to reconnect. We also celebrated the presentation of Bottom Line's first Alumni Achievement Awards. This year's awardees were Frinny Polanco, Priscilla Guerrero, and Robert Nichols (Pictured above - left to right).

Frinny is the first Bottom Line alum to become a medical doctor and works at Tufts Medical Center. Robert is a highly successful real estate entrepreneur and investor. Priscilla is currently an Assistant District Attorney at the Roxbury Division of the Boston Municipal Court and a graduate of Suffolk University Law School.
Thanks to the support of many generous alumni, board members, staff, and others, the National Alumni Board helped raise over $6,000 from the event. These funds will help Bottom Line continue to advance it's mission of helping low-income, first generation college students Get In, Graduate, and Go Far.

Bottom Line New York hosts
'Workplace Discrimination Workshop'

Bottom Line New York hosted their first ever 'Workplace Discrimination Workshop' specifically for our recent graduates/alumni on Monday, June 12th. The workshop included small group conversations with 7 volunteers from Turner Constructions, facilitated by career counselor Nehemiah Legiste. Throughout the night alumni and volunteers walked through intersectionality and how that plays a role in the workplace, talked through real instances of workplace discrimination, and discusses both legal and non-law based strategies for dealing with workplace discrimination.

We look forward to hosting similar events for our students and alumni in the future!
