Now that the restoration of the Rose Window has been completed, along with significant structural repairs to the interior and exterior of the building, we are pleased to report that Phase 2 of the Living Stones Campaign to improve our cathedral is underway.
The Vestry has unanimously approved two recommendations from the Buildings and Grounds Committee to begin the next phase of improvements:
- To repair and restore the two lancet windows on the East wall (these windows appear beneath the Rose Window on each side of the reredos). The stained glass is in great need of repair and the wooden framing surrounding the windows is rotting and in need of replacement. This work will complete the structural repairs currently needed on the East wall. A generous grant from the Morton-Kelly Charitable Trust will cover a portion of the costs of these repairs.
- To install pew cushions in the nave and chapel pews. These custom cushions will significantly enhance the St. Luke's experience for all visitors - parishioners, concert and event attendees, wedding and funeral attendees, etc. by making our pews more comfortable and making our space more welcoming. The cushions are manufactured with special foam that has very low sound absorption in order to minimize any impacts on the acoustics within the building.
Repairs to the lancet windows and installation of the pew cushions will occur in the coming months.
Plans for the kitchen renovation are currently under the review of the Buildings and Grounds Committee. Quotes have been obtained for various pieces of major equipment including refrigeration, range, and ventilation hood installation.
Please do not hesitate to be in touch with either of us with questions, or if you would like to make a contribution to the Living Stones Campaign. Read more of the details...here
