State & National Reports
Michigan in Context

Center for Postsecondary and Economic Success at CLASP (June 2017)
This report draws together what the National Association of State Budget Officers have said for years: state higher education funding is being crowded out by Medicaid funding. In Michigan alone, this report calculates that Michigan still has a shortfall of $484 million in higher education funding when comparing 2008 and 2016. The report then places that in context against the estimated $17 billion needed to fully offset federal Medicaid reductions in Michigan from 2019 to 2028 under the U.S. House's proposed health care law.

Lumina Foundation (July 2017)
The Lumina Foundation's Big Goal of 60 percent of Americans holding a high-quality postsecondary credential by 2025 continues to draw closer. Michigan now has 43.4 percent of its adult population holding a degree or a high-quality certificate, essentially static from last year's figure of 43.3 percent. Among racial and ethnic subcategories, this percentage ranges from a low of 20.7 percent of American Indians to a high of Asian and Pacific Islanders at 70.2 percent.
