Highlights: Congresswoman Jackie Speier to Speak at Terra Nova High School, Relay for Life, Unused Medication Take Back at Library
Connect With Pacifica This Week
Greetings!

Terra Nova High School will be the site of significant activity this weekend. Throughout the weekend, the annual Relay For Life, a fundraising effort associated with the American Cancer Society will be taking place. Kickoff, so to speak, will take place at the track in the football stadium at 10am on Saturday. Show your support and donate if you can.

Health care is on just about everyone’s mind right now. Congresswoman Jackie Speier, joined by State Senator Jerry Hill and Assemblyman Kevin Mullin will be at the Terra Nova High School theatre beginning at noon on Saturday to discuss the national and statewide implications of legislation under consideration.  The event is free, but reservations are required. Just go to the link below to secure a spot.

Please let me know if you have comments or questions, and  thank you for wanting to   Connect with Pacifica!

Best,
KEITH BRESKIN

  • Planning Commission to Hold Public Hearing on Accessory Dwelling Unit Regulations On Monday, July 17 the Planning Commission will hold a hearing to consider changes to the City’s regulations for construction of accessory dwelling units, or ADUs. These are also commonly known as second units, in-law units, or granny flats. Accessory dwelling units involve attached or detached living areas with complete independent living facilities including their own kitchens, and must be constructed on sites with an existing single-family residence. They can also be created within the existing area of a single-family residence or in an accessory structure such as a detached garage.

The Planning Commission will consider specific standards for construction of accessory dwelling units including minimum setbacks from property lines, height limits, and minimum parking requirements. The City is updating its ordinance in response to changes in state law addressing accessory dwelling units which took effect January 1, 2017.

Details of the proposed ordinance are discussed in the Planning Commission Staff Report. This will be the second hearing on this topic. The Planning Commission previously discussed this topic on April 17. Video of that meeting is available on Pacific Coast TV’s YouTube channel.

If you are interested in providing input on this item, the Commission meeting begins at 7:00pm in the Council Chambers, 2212 Beach Blvd., Pacifica. You may also send written comments to the Planning Department.

  • Community Center Rear Parking Lot Closure for Construction Fencing was installed this past week around the rear parking lot at the Community Center in preparation for construction on the Wet Weather Equalization Basin (EQ Basin). The Community Center and Skatepark will remain open during construction. The main parking lot will not be affected. However the parking lot to the rear of the Community Center will be closed during construction.

In last week's edition of Connect With Pacifica, it was mentioned that the EQ Basin will help to prevent flooding during major storms. More specifically, the EQ Basin will be a key infrastructure element to prevent sanitary sewer overflows (SSO's) during large storms due to infiltration of groundwater and stormwater into the sewer collection system.

For more information about the EQ Basin project, see the project webpage or this Quick Information Sheet.
