The City of Moreno Valley has been awarded the highest form of recognition for governmental accounting and financial reporting for its FY 2015/16 comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).

This marks the 19th consecutive time City has earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

The City was also honored with GFOA’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting for its popular annual financial report (PAFR). The City has earned this distinction every year since it began publishing the PAFR in in 2014. 

The City’s CAFR and PAFR were judged by impartial panels to have met the high standards of the programs. The City’s publications were honored as a result of their ability to clearly communicate the City’s fiscal picture and motivate members of the public to learn more.

Moreno Valley was recently ranked the third most fiscally strong City in the nation by the Fiscal Times, and has a balanced budget for the sixth straight year.

The Moreno Valley Animal Shelter was awarded a $15,000 grant to provide residents with financial assistance to spay and neuter their dogs and cats.

The grant was awarded by the California Department of Food & Agriculture (CDFA) as part of its Animal Homelessness and Cruelty Fund. California taxpayers contribute to the fund by donating all or a portion of their state income tax refund.

Grant funds can be used only to spay and neuter dogs and cats owned by residents,  and cannot be used for animals impounded at the Animal Shelter.

The City is developing a spay-neuter voucher program funded by the grant.

Construction to widen Heacock Street from two to four lanes between Iris Avenue and Gentian Avenue to eliminate a traffic bottleneck is proceeding on schedule.

The Heacock Street Improvement project began in March.

Contractors have installed a new sidewalk and paved two traffic lanes on the east side of Heacock Street from Revere Place to Gentian Avenue.  Traffic will be diverted to the newly paved street in the next few weeks to allow for construction to begin on the west side of Heacock.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in October.

Moreno Valley Community Service Officer (CSO) Leafy Wilson has announced she is retiring after serving the residents of Moreno Valley for the last 12 years.

Her professionalism and kindness are often cited in the letters and calls from appreciative business owners, community leaders, and residents of Moreno Valley.

CSO Wilson earned the Golden Bear Award for superior performance in the identification through fingerprint recovery and comparison for six consecutive years.

In 2015, CSO Wilson was awarded the Classified Employee of the quarter. These accomplishments were exhibited in a wide range of circumstances over her years of service to our community.

“It is a bittersweet time in my life, having to leave the wonderful people I have worked with for many years. I am anxious to have some down time, travel and do things I have been too busy to do over the past years. It has been nearly 13 years since I started my journey with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and Moreno Valley Police Department. This has been one of the best organizations I have had the pleasure to serve and the finest group of people I know.
