La Hacienda
Business of the Month -  La Hacienda
La Hacienda is a Mexican Restaurant located in the middle of downtown Osawatomie. They offer a large menu of authentic Mexican fare, American favorites, children's menu, desserts and a wide array of beer, mixed drinks
and soft drinks.

"We serve food cooked like Mom used to do it. All sauces are made by us  and we make them daily."

La Hacienda opened in 2012. Prior to becoming a restaurant, the location was home to pharmacies. Sinclair Drug Store was the previous tenant before Auten Pharmacy and was bought out by Auten Pharmacy in June of 1992. Auten Pharmacy moved to their new location of 125 Main St. in September 2009. Teri Auten, owner of the then vacant building at 546 Main St., was contacted after the local real estate business was approached by someone looking for restaurant space. Teri made extensive renovations to the building, making it into a restaurant, and remains the owner of the building today.

Alex Castillo is the owner of the restaurant, La Hacienda. Alejandro and Dulce Madrigal manage the restaurant. Other employees include Javier Ruiz and Leonardo Loredo.

The employees came here from Wisconsin. A relative enticed them with the opportunity of working at a Mexican restaurant in Osawatomie, KS.

It is a family run restaurant where they are all family - or just as close as family. Alejandro and Dulce have two children ages 5 and 9.  They have grown up in the restaurant where the youngest actually learned to walk. The children are already saying they want to be a part of the restaurant  as they get older.

Dulce said that they have found Osawatomie to be "a nice place to raise their children". They eventually hope to purchase a home here. They like to be involved in the community, especially with their kids.

Just like all of the local businesses, they get hit up for donations quite frequently. La Hacienda tries to help every chance they get (though they are not always able to do so) - mostly by offering gift certificates to their restaurant. It is a way to give back to the community they serve.

Stop by anytime for lunch or dinner or a snack in between. La Hacienda offers appetizers, salads, house specials, enchiladas, burritos, fajitas, combination dinners and a la cart items. Chicken, pork, steak, seafood and vegetarian options are available.

There are lunch specials offered every day and other different specials that
vary throughout the week. Every week popular specials days are Taco Tuesday - soft and hard shell, chicken or beef tacos, all day for $1.40 each  and Enchilada Thursdays - beef, chicken or cheese, all day for $1.40 each.

Catering is also offered by La Hacienda. They offer offsite catering to  your event and/or you are able to reserve La Hacienda for an event to be catered right in their restaurant. They have done weddings, wedding  rehearsal dinners, our local chamber dinner and many other events.  They   have paired up with The Loft on Sixth for events - which is a great win  for our community!

Gift Certificates are always available for purchase.

broadbandsurvey
Broadband
Thank you to those who have taken the time to do the Broadband Survey!  We encourage each business to take the survey soon as the participation rate in the survey is crucial to attracting a fiber or high-speed provider.

The City of Osawatomie and Project 17 are teaming up to improve broadband, or high-speed, Internet access to the area, and we need your help in gaining a better understanding of your high-speed Internet needs.

We're looking for feedback from local businesses, schools, healthcare, safety and private residential users in the Osawatomie area.

The installation of a high-speed Internet network in Osawatomie will provide opportunities for growth and economic development for the city and its residents, and by completing this survey, you can help us in:
- Determining which areas lack Internet access
- Assisting us in identifying and prioritizing infrastructure investments
- Gathering data for project-related funding requests and grant proposals
- Developing programs to enhance broadband adoption

Your input is appreciated, and will be used solely for determining high-speed Internet needs.

During this survey, we will ask you to go to a third-party website to obtain your Internet speed. For this reason, we ask that you take the survey from a device at the location you are reporting. For example, if you are answering questions about your residential Internet needs, please complete the survey from a computer, tablet or other device connected to your household network. Otherwise, the results we receive will not be as precise.
Go to: https://survey.osawatomieks.org/ to take the survey!
