Welcome to the July issue of Durham Tourism's Industry Insights!

Summertime is officially here, and there is fun and excitement around every corner! Canada 150 events are continuing, long after the official birthday celebrations have finished. Outdoor activities and events are taking place across the region, and residents and visitors are embracing the summer spirit.

It's been an exciting summer so far, following the June announcement that Durham Region will host the 2019 Ontario Parasport Games. See the article below for more information on this exciting opportunity.

Tourism Industry Highlights
Register now for Culture Days!

Culture Days, a three-day celebration of the arts, is taking place across the region from September 29 to October 1! Last year, over 80 participating events celebrated arts and culture in Durham Region.

Durham Tourism is once again encouraging all interested artists, event producers and arts organizations in Durham Region to register their Culture Days event for the annual Culture Days weekend . You  can register online, both at www.durhamtourism.ca and www.culturedays.ca.
Durham Region is proud to be a part of the three-day national celebration, which will see hundreds of thousands of artists and cultural organizations, in hundreds of cities and towns, come together to share their cultural spirit and passion.

All events across Durham Region are free, and offer the chance to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators and designers at work in their local communities. The celebrations continue on Durham150

Canada Day may have already come and gone, but the 150 celebrations continue all year long!

Rural Routes and Dirty Boots
 
The new Greenbelt Brewery Discovery Routes Map from Central Counties Tourism features Ontario's independent craft brewers, cideries, distillers, Feast On restaurants, farmers' markets, and the bounty of Ontario and its protected Greenbelt. Durham's Rural Routes and Dirty Boots is one of nine featured routes.

The Rural Routes and Dirty Boots discovery route stretches from the waterfront shores of Lake Ontario to the rural sites of the Oak Ridges Moraine. The route is available online at http://yorkdurhamheadwaters.ca/discovery-routes/#/. Hard copies of the map are available at partner locations along the route.

2019 Ontario Parasport Games coming to Durham    

We're excited to announce that Durham Region will be welcoming the 2019 Ontario Parasport Games. While we're just under two years away from this exciting event, preparations have already begun!

The 2019 Ontario Parasport Games will attract more than 260 athletes, competing in approximately 10 sports over the three-day event. It is estimated that the Ontario Parasport Games will help generate nearly $500,000 in economic activity in the region. The Region of Durham's Sport Durham program will be working closely with the Games Organizing Committee to deliver a successful 2019 Ontario Parasport Games.
