SB 138 (McGuire) Passes Assembly Ed Unanimously, Thanks to Your Support!

SB 138 (McGuire) passed out of the Assembly Committee on Education with another unanimous, bipartisan vote of support yesterday! SB 138 aims to paperlessly enroll more than 650,000 students into school meals through Medi-Cal Direct Certification, which will enable high-poverty schools to make meals available free of charge to all students through a universal meal provision.

SB 138 will need your continued support as it moves to the Assembly Committee on Appropriations. If you haven't sent in your letter of support to the Assembly, please do so today! Stay tuned for more next steps, but in the meantime send out a tweet to your networks.

CFPA in the News...

The Visalia Times-Delta recently highlighted CFPA's work to secure $5 million in state funding to provide struggling Californians living without safe drinking water relief  through supplemental CalFresh benefits.

"This budget also invests in an initiative to bring short term relief to residents in poverty who have been living for years without safe drinking water, with supplemental CalFresh assistance.  Struggling Californians can't afford to wait for long term solutions. As we work towards sustainable infrastructure, this budget works to help those most in need."

- Tracey Patterson, Director of Legislation, California Food Policy Advocates.
