During the month of February, 4,465 calls were handled by 2-1-1 Resource Specialists and 6,619 health, housing and human service referrals were provided. Of the unduplicated callers, 73% are female, 29% are single mothers with minor children, and 51% reported they are living with disabilities. (These statistics exclude callers who opted to not provide demographic information during intake.) Eden I&R celebrated National 2-1-1 Day a couple of days early this year on Friday, February 9. We honored our staff with a buffet lunch and a raffle drawing for several donated items. And not to leave out our weekend staff, a pizza lunch was delivered to the call center for the Phone Resource Specialists working on the actual 2-1-1 Day which was Sunday, February 11. We are extremely grateful to our staff who work tirelessly to serve our 2-1-1 callers.
Call Examples
An elderly man from Livermore called seeking various resources. He was dealing with multiple challenges and needed some support. He stated he was having problems with his car passing a smog check and was afraid to drive it with the temporary tags. He was going to the local senior center to eat once a day but was not eating enough. He had a problem with appliances in his home and was afraid of authorities removing him from his home because of his living conditions. The 2-1-1 Resource Specialist spent considerable time with the caller trying to properly assess his needs. 2-1-1 referred him to the public health nursing program, local food pantries for fresh fruits and vegetables, the Bureau of Automotive Repair that may be able to financially assist with repairing his vehicle, and Pleasanton Community Counseling Center so that he could talk to a counselor concerning his depression.
