City Council Introduces Affordable Housing Ordinance 

At Monday's meeting the City Council introduced a new affordable housing ordinance that includes establishing an impact fee to build an Affordable Housing Trust Fund. 


Miller Avenue Streetscape Project Road Reconstruction and Paving Work Update

Approved nighttime paving work in the Mainstreet (Willow-Valley Circle/Reed Street) has been completed. The City of Mill Valley would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for its support and patience the last two weeks as nighttime operations and road closures occurred.
All of Miller Avenue from Sunnyside to Almonte will be paved as part of the project. 

Speed Limit Being Reduced from 40mph to 35mph on Miller Avenue between Camino Alto and Southern City Border

The Mill Valley City Council voted Monday to reduce the speed limit from 40mph to 35mph on Miller Avenue between Camino Alto and the southern border of the City. Changes to the speed limit go into effect on the week of July 24, 2017 and enforcement will begin on August 7. 

City Council to Implement One Year Pilot Project to Retain the Single Lane Configuration in the Parkway (Millwood to Willow)

On July 17, the City Council agreed to implement a one-year pilot project retaining the single lane configuration in the Miller Avenue "Parkway" (Millwood to Willow). The Parkway was temporarily re-striped as a one-lane roadway in each direction last year to create additional unrestricted parking during the Miller Avenue Streetscape Project. 

Fitness Floor Renovation at the Community Center

Renovations on the Fitness Floor will begin August 11th at 11:30am and last until Tuesday September 5th

The City of Mill Valley, Mill Valley Recreation and the Mill Valley Friends of Parks and Recreation are excited to announce that we will be renovating and updating our fitness floor. Click here to see the new equipment that will be installed.

City Installs New Parking Meters

Last week the City of Mill Valley upgraded its parking meters in the downtown area. The new meters allow individuals to use either coins or credit cards.

The Mill Valley City Council is seeking to fill an unscheduled vacancy on the Arts Commission.
The term will run from the date of appointment to February 28, 2020, where at that time the
chosen applicant will be able to reapply for a new three year term.

Each summer the Mill Valley Recreation Department hosts free monthly Movies in the Park at Old Mill Park. These movies are held on a Friday night in August, September and October and are family friendly. Please bring your blankets, low beach chairs, flashlights and picnics.

After Hours: Grace Without God with Katherine Ozment

Katherine Ozment chronicles her three-year journey to document the dramatic rise of the nonreligious across the United States, looking at reasons for the sudden increase in this population and sharing examples of the many ways secular Americans are forming new communities, rituals, and sources of meaning as they chart a path toward grace without God.

REVIEWS

City Council Meeting - July 17, 2017

The following actions were taken at the July 17, 2017 Regular City Council meeting. 
  1. Received an introduction of Annie Bricca, Facilities Coordinator in the Recreation Department.
  2. Joel Ferreira-Clifton, James Stanic, and Anthony Beltramo were introduced and sworn in as Firefighters.
  3. Accepted grant of $2,852 for the Hauke Park electric vehicle charger replacement from the Transportation Authority of Marin.
  4. Adopted Ordinance 1294 adding Chapter 11.36 to the Mill Valley Municipal Code to authorize the recording of a map of the official City of Mill Valley Steps, Lanes, and Paths inventory.
  5. Adopted Resolution No. 17-41 to modify the signing and striping of the Miller Avenue Streetscape Plan.
  6. Received and discussed a report on the City's renewable energy options for the 2017/18 budget discussion, directing staff to include the 100% renewable energy "Deep Green" option with Marin Clean Energy in the proposed budget adjustments.
  7. Received and discussed a presentation of the lane configuration on Miller Avenue in the Parkway Room, directed staff to develop a one year, one lane pilot program and return for consideration at the August 7, 2017 City Council meeting.
  8. Adopted Resolution No. 17-42 to reduce the speed limit from 40 MPH to 35 MPH on Miller Avenue from Camino Alto to the south city limit.
  9. Introduced an Affordable Housing Ordinance to amend Title 20, Zoning, of the Mill Valley Municipal Code and waived the First Reading.

Special City Council Meeting - 2017/2018 Budget Adjustments -  July 18, 2017

The City Council held a special meeting to consider p roposed budget adjustments for Fiscal Year 2017 - 2018 and the Five-Year Capital Improvement Program. Funding of proposed adjustments was approved with the addition of:
  • Funding a program to address traffic communications devoted to Miller Avenue
  • Committing the City to Deep Green Energy program
  • Purchasing an emergency generator for the Community Center
  • Authorized evaluation of a program to provide Business License Fee relief to Miller Avenue businesses
  • Earmarking funds associated with a change in actuarial assumptions for the City's Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB) costs
