DMA West Study Indicates Visit Santa Clara Website Generates Direct Visitor Spending

The Santa Clara Convention & Visitors Bureau's (CVB) Visit Santa Clara website influences visitor spending in regards to hotel rooms, extended stays, offsite venues, visitor attractions, special events, places to eat, transportation, and other hospitality related  spending. A recent Destination Marketing Association of the West (DMA West) study determined the Visitor Spending Impact and ROI  that CVB websites produce for their communities. The DMA West study of 13 CVB websites and nearly 400,000 web users indicated an average value of $37 in Direct Visitor Spending from each True/New User to a CVB website.

Based on this metric, the CVB's website generated $1.8 million dollars in Direct Visitor Spending for Santa Clara hospitality businesses in FY 2016-17 3rd quarter. The CVB expects this number to grow with the addition of new visitor translated information in Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Spanish. For more information, visit www.santaclara.org.
CVB Attends U.S. Travel Association IPW

U.S. Travel Association's IPW is the travel industry's premier international marketplace and the largest generator of travel to the U.S. - it is NOT a typical trade show. In just three days of intensive pre-scheduled business appointments, more than 1,000 U.S. travel organizations from every region of the USA (representing all industry category components), and more than 1,300 international and domestic buyers from more than 70 countries conduct business negotiations that result in the generation of more than $4.7 billion in future Visit USA travel. At IPW, buyers and sellers are able to conduct business that would otherwise be generated only through an exhaustive number of around-the-world trips.

For Santa Clara, representatives from the CVB, California's Great America, and the Intel Museum conducted over 40 one-on-one business appointments with international travel buyers. Many of the buyers were from Beijing and Shanghai, China and also Tokyo, Japan. All three of those cities now have non-stop service to Mineta San Jose International Airport. For many buyers, it was the first time they have heard of Santa Clara hotels and visitor attractions. Many expressed interest in utilizing Santa Clara hotels upon weekend arrival from the long overseas trip. To make it easier for the international traveler, the Visitors Bureau has translated web pages in both Chinese and Japanese at www.SantaClara.org/Chinese and
www.SantaClara.org/Japanese
