Summer Series, a favourite of our recurring exhibitions -- is on now at the gallery. A rotating exhibition of new works by contemporary artists alongside highlights in historical Canadian painting,
Summer Series X runs until August 26th. With new works to the windows and walls by Jane Everett, Jessica Levman and Daniel Hughes -- fruitful visits to the gallery are in store for you this summer.
Compliments of achievement go out to Brian Burke (R.C.A.) and Daniel Hughes as both artists have been announced as finalists for the 2017 Kingston Prize, Canada's portrait competition. An exhibition of the shortlisted artists will tour Ontario later this year with the award ceremony taking place at the Peel Art Gallery (PAMA) in November.

The new works of Jane Everett, Jessica Levman and Daniel Hughes firmly engage the viewer in terms of process, with all three artists working with a similar mixture of media and understanding of grounds.
New from
Jane Everett's west coast studio are drawings -- both large scale and smaller framed works. Rendered on drafting film, the mixed media drawings are a thrill to view. Playing with perspective and light, Everett masterfully marks out beauty in the everyday.
Also to the gallery walls are the works on paper of
Jessica Levman (below:
Kingdoms Breathing Through Me). Presenting her visual elements in new ways, Levman offers drawings framed meaningfully in diptychs alongside a new figurative mylar piece,
Refuge, from her ongoing
Transparencies series.
Just last week,
Daniel Hughes delivered eight new works to the gallery. Created with an exhilarating mixture of media -- charcoal, conté, ink, chalk pastel and soft pastel, Hughes offers studies in light and the human condition in this new collection of figurative works on paper.
Also on view in this 10th installment of
Summer Series are the works of early, great artists Alison Newton (1890-1967), Alice Innes (1890-1970) and Florence Vale (1909-2003).
Summertime in the city means extra opportunity for you to visit. Throughout the weeks of the exhibition we will be adding to the mix and rotating the works above. As we like to ensure there is always something of great note for you to enjoy.
