MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS FOR HRP NRI 2017

  • HRP incorporates 2017 cost data from the Craftsman National Renovation & Insurance Repair Estimator, the National Construction Estimator and the National Building Cost Manual.
  • HRP will continue to use the SageKey installer program that will eliminate the following issues during and after installation:
    • Warning message that the download/installation file comes from an unknown source
    • Configuration message and long wait time while switching between Housing Rehab Pro NRI and another version of Microsoft Access on the same computer
  • Housing Rehab Pro NRI now uses the runtime version of Microsoft Access 2010. Previous versions ran under Microsoft Access 2007.
  • The Housing Rehab Pro NRI front-end (the user interface) is saved in a format that allows for a smaller file size and should run faster.
  • The Housing Rehab Pro NRI back-end database is now located in the installation directory and not in the "Database" sub directory. When linking to the back-end for the first time, the user will be taken to this folder.
  • The Housing Rehab Pro NRI back-end has been renamed from HRP_NRI_BE_Master.mdb to HRP_NRI_BE.mdb to avoid confusion when converting it to a master database format.

HRP Tips

What to do if you don't know what Work Type a work description is associated with?

  • The Inspection Checklist is your best guide. But if you want to wing it, here's how.
  • From the HRP Main Menu, select a project and go to the Project Summary screen. Next click on "Add Items" to open the "WORK WRITE-UP/ADD ITEMS" screen.
  • Instead of using the "Select Work Type:" drop down menu to select from grouped work descriptions, use the "Search all work descriptions:" text boxes to list all work descriptions containing the search terms.
  • Insert search terms into the two text boxes next to "Search all work descriptions:" and click on the "Search Cost Items" button.
  • Under the "Select Work Description" list box below, you will see all of the work descriptions that match the search parameters. You will also see a total number of work descriptions in the list.
  • If the list is very long, add more terms to the search.
  • Remember, if you place two search terms in the same text box, they must appear next to each other in a work description. If they do not, you will get zero search results.
  • If no items appear, simplify the search by removing search terms.

FYI
FYI

Here's what Craftsman has to say about the direction of construction prices in the "about this book" section of the 2017 "National Renovation & Insurance Repair Estimator":

"WHAT'S NEW IN 2017

The overall construction market has improved substantially over the past several years, with many regions experiencing strong growth. As regional markets pick up, there is increasing pressure to raise wages, which grew slowly or not at all for several years following the 2008 financial crisis. Suppliers also held back on cost increases in past years and many feel current and coming cost increases are overdue. Lower fuel costs help offset some of the potential cost increases and have been a boon to both suppliers and contractors. Canada, which never suffered a downturn like the one experienced in the U.S., continues to experience strong growth and increasing costs, especially in metropolitan areas."
