$30K Solution Search prize!
Chosen out of nearly 350 entries, we are now in second place by only 29 votes!! Our project is a partnership with mountain communities to restore
pre-Inca water management systems using traditional knowledge and modern science. This is an adaptation to climate change that revives degraded ecosystems while honoring ancient cultures!
You can help us expand our innovative solution to other Andean communities. Please
cast your vote here - once a day - until July 7th!

80,000 TREES -
O
ne by One
We've joined forces with the
European Outdoor Conservation Association
's 2 Million Trees Project to help remote mountain communities reforest degraded areas in Gorkha, Dhading and Sankhuwasabha districts of Nepal. Local communities are building nurseries to grow the native trees and other species that are best suited to the local climate and environment, plus tree species with multiple uses and good economic value. Reforesting will boost local livelihoods and ecotourism. Read all about it in our latest photo-story.
Imja Lake: A Story of Climate Adaptation in Nepal.
Check out the latest video clip from Daniel Byers of
Skyship Films.
For decades, scientists have warned of the threat posed by the rapid growth of Imja lake to the people of the Khumbu region of Nepal. In 2016, Nepal took action, embarking on the highest-altitude large engineering project in the world. We're proud to say that our Institute's scientists and colleagues were instrumental in assessing the dangers of Imja Lake and worked with locals to pressure the Nepal government to make it safer. Kudos to Dr. Alton Byers, our former Director of Science and Exploration!
Climate Change in the Andes
Risan Media
's Todd Anders Johnson traveled to Chile and Peru a few months ago to document climate change impacts on Andean glaciers and how mountain communities are adapting. In the Ancash region of Peru, Todd joined our Andes Program team
to document one of our USAID-
funded projects in the Cordillera Blanca. Enjoy this brief video filmed in HuascarĂ¡n National Park
at Lake Palcacocha and at our bioremediation project site in the mountains above Hauraz.
