Dear Friends,

Congratulations to Grafton, Mequon, Germantown, Richfield, and Menomonee Falls!  They all made the list of 100 Best Towns to Start a Small Business in Wisconsin.  The list put together by LendEDU takes into consideration population, income, and expenses.  In fact, Grafton took the number two spot in the state!

I'd also like to thank the efforts of the Grafton Area Chamber of Commerce, the Mequon-Thiensville Chamber of Commerce, the Germantown Area Chamber of Commerce, the Menomonee Falls Chamber of Commerce, Inc., and the West Bend Area Chamber of Commerce for their exceptional role in making sure small businesses have the resources they need.

According to the U.S. Small Business Association, there are 440,763 in our state.  The association says that makes up 97.7% of all businesses in the state! More than half of the state workforce is employed by a small business.  With our state's unemployment rate at 3.1%, small businesses are huge part of Wisconsin's success story!

As always, if you have any ideas on how to improve our great state, including how to improve the budget, please do not hesitate to contact me at  [email protected]  or 608-266-5830.

On Wisconsin!

Illinois Tax Hikes Affect Wisconsin's Budget

It took the state of Illinois three years to pass a budget and they still got it wrong. We welcome Illinois taxpayers and businesses who are ready to flee the 32% tax hike passed by their state legislature.

Here in Wisconsin, I expect we will soon pass another budget that will continue to lower the tax burden, create jobs, and protect our most vulnerable populations.  Our budget will address the loss of revenue from their tax hike.  However, we expect that effect will be temporary as more and more companies are taxed out of Illinois.

Unlike our neighbors to the south, I will continue to prioritize our state's taxpayers. As the end of the budget process draws near, I look forward to approving a budget bill that will continue to move Wisconsin forward.
