Call for Proposals: Approaching Deadlines
The call for Workshop or Training Sessions at the 7 th International Fire Ecology and Management Congress in Orlando, November 28 to December 2 will close this Saturday, July 1. If you have a proposal you intend to submit, please do so this week. Or, if you know of a training opportunity that could be held at the Congress, please get together with your colleagues and prepare/submit a proposal. There will be many other excellent training and educational programs at the Congress --take advantage of this opportunity!

There is also still plenty of time to submit Presentation and Poster abstracts, Fire Circle proposals, and Attached Meeting proposals. All proposals and abstracts can be submitted online at the links below.

Early Bird Registration Ends July 31st
This event, hosted by the Association for Fire Ecology, in cooperation with the Southern Fire Exchange, will be one of the largest, most comprehensive meetings on research and management of wildland fire globally, bringing together fire researchers, managers, policy makers, and students for a 20 year reflection and a look towards the future. AFE's 2017 Certification Programs:
Deadline Extended to September 1, 2017
The application deadline for the Wildland Fire Professional Certification and the Wildland Fire Academic Program Certification has been extended to September 1, 2017.

Wildland Fire Professional Certification 
This Certification Program is designed to further ecologically-based fire science and management, to formally identify fire careers as vital professions, to set standards for the preparation of future fire professionals, and to document the education, experience, and training qualifications of members of the fire ecology and management profession.

Wildland Fire Academic Program Certification 
With the many wildland fire programs to choose from, certified programs should attract more students into their programs. Students who graduate from an AFE Certified program will qualify for an expedited application process to become Certified Wildland Fire Professionals. Recognized programs will be listed on the AFE website, in our newsletter, and in other AFE promotional materials.
