Welcome to the SBA Alumnae newsletter.
The experiences you had while at Saint Basil Academy connect all of you in a very special way. The Alumnae issue of E-News will be published every other week to keep you well informed of all the wonderful happenings at SBA, and among each other. We welcome you to send us updates of your accomplishments and milestones.

The office of Institutional Advancement is looking for Alumnae to take on the role as "class captains". As a class captain, we ask you to support the academy by acting as a liaison between your graduating class via social media, phone calls or emails to share the happenings at SBA. Class lists will be provided and we welcome more than one alumna per class. To sign up please email Mrs. Samantha Angelone and provide your name (including maiden name) and class year and we will get you started.

Please join us on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at our annual Pawction Gala from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. We will induct two
graduates from Saint Basil Academy into the Pillars of Success.
Our first inductee is Sister Carla Hernández '53. Sister Carla came to Saint Basil Academy as a young woman from Honduras. Alone in a new country, she
found a home with the Sisters of Saint Basil the Great. After graduation, she returned to Honduras, but her heart remained at 710 Fox Chase Road. In 1955, Sr. Carla returned to her second home on Fox Chase Road which she loved so much, to become a Sister of Saint Basil the Great. She went on to share her gifts with the young women of Saint Basil Academy for many years. Sister Carla served as principal of the Academy from 1986 until 2012. Sister Carla can still be found at Saint Basil Academy, educating the young women that walk the halls today.
Our second inductee is Frances Melko Boccella '67. After graduating from Saint Basil Grade School, Frannie had a strong desire to attend Saint Basil Academy. While at the Academy she played varsity basketball and was president of her senior class. The friendships that Frannie made during her four years at  the Academy are still ever present. Today Frannie dedicates her time volunteering at Children's Specialized Hospital in New Jersey. She has been married to her husband Nick for 45 years. Frannie was introduced to Nick by Nancy Coyle, her SBA basketball coach. Nick and Frannie have two daughters, Elizabeth and Annie. They are also proud grandparents to 5 beautiful grandchildren, Madeline 5, Brooke 3, Ryan 1½, Maggie 2, and Lucas 5 months.
Frannie frequently visits the Sisters at the Motherhouse, always grateful to them for their dedication in helping her to become the woman she is today.

Alumnae Giving Challenge
March Madness Alumnae Giving Challenge kicked off on March 1, 2018. We have received 11 donations this week! Look out Team 11 (Classes 1970-1973) because Team 9 (Classes 1978-1981) is coming on strong clinching first place this week with 3 donors. This is still anyone's game, one week left to show your spirit!

Just in case you missed it, here is how it works:
- Alumnae will be grouped by year of graduation
- Teams will be formed in groups of graduation years- e.g. 2013-2012-2011-2010
- There will be a total of 16 teams starting from the Class of 1950 and ending with the Class of 2013
- The donation challenge will start on March 1st and end on March 31st.
- Points will be assigned for the following categories:
Prizes will be given for total of first time donors.
Prizes will be given for the largest individual gift.
Prizes will be given for the team with the most total dollars accumulated.
Prizes will be given for the most alumnae participation.
- THERE IS NO ELIMINATION - EACH CLASS IS ELIGIBLE TO MAKE DONATIONS FOR THEIR TEAM FROM MARCH 1

Saturday July 28, 2018 at Flip Flopz. Everyone who participates in the March Madness Alumnae Giving Challenge will receive a tee shirt given out at Basils at the Beach.
