Desk
This month we continue our series introducing the Christian Education Network of the ELCA board to you. We are blessed with an amazing group of leaders who have an array of gifts, passions and experiences. This month you will meet The Rev. Dave Waseman, Region 8 Network Advocate. As you will learn, Pastor Dave has a passion for teaching others how to grow their relationship with Jesus. In addition to leading our CENetwork book study on Facebook, Pastor Dave is part of a team writing a manual for the newly rostered, a coach, and ministers to his own community. At the center of it all is his love for Jesus and Jesus' love for each of us.
For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

6 Questions and a Cup of Coffee
with...
Rev. Dave Waseman
I am married to Denise and we live in Ligonier, PA. We both attended the University of Pittsburgh. Denise studied languages and I studied Denise. She still has love notes I dropped in her locker. They are in romantic cursive. Texting, circa 1970. I am a pastor, pastoral/ congregational leadership coach, and change navigator.
1. Can you describe your call to ministry?
As a teen I was serving as an acolyte one Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wheeling, West Virginia. I was suddenly aware of a notion, a compelling one: I was to become a pastor. It was one of three key moments in my life where I became awakened and aware of God's presence. In two other moments I was again aware of God's presence, transformed by God's concern with the details of my life, clear about the need for me to be a regular listener.
2. What is the best part of your ministry now?
Confident in the presence of God, I have been preparing people to be listeners. As a current witness due to the withness of God, I have taught people Bible study and prayer with the master teacher Jesus. I have them form questions into prayers based on their study, offer them to the master teacher Jesus, listen carefully and take good notes.
3. What is one fact about you that would surprise people?
As a child in the Elvis Presley fifties, I was removed from the television show Romper Room. We were listening to Miss Marion tell a story. Dressed in a cowboy hat and bearing a ukulele, I burst into a non-hip twisting ebullient rendering of the song, "You Ain't Nothin' But a Hound Dog".
4. What are three things Christian Educators need to keep their eye on?
- The cross of Jesus as it gives us insight into the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.
- The cross of Jesus as it focuses our lives on our relationship with Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- The cross of Jesus as it absorbs all of us in the way of the cross, -- inside of us and outside of us -- to the restless spirits yearning for peace and life in Jesus Christ.

Mary Magdalene, Apostle (July 22)
Almighty God, your Son first entrusted the apostle Mary Magdalene with the joyful news of his resurrection. Following the example of her witness, may we proclaim Christ as our living Lord and one day see Him in glory, for He lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. (ELW pg. 57)
