The Struggle for Religious Pluralism in Israel
  Dear friends

I am sure you are aware of the struggle for Religious Pluralism that is currently going on in Israel.  You might wish to read the remarks of Rabbi Steve Wernick, the CEO of the United Synagogue here.

I am sure you will have been following the story of the "blacklisting" of certain rabbis by the Israeli Rabbanut.  I am sharing below two of the responses that have been written by rabbis whose names appear on that list (the second set of links is at the end of the first article) since I consider it is important for us to hear their voices at this time.  We need to keep ourselves informed about these issues; they represent a potential fracture in the unity of the Jewish people.

Shir Chadash Brick Fundraiser

Dear Shir Chadash Community,

You did it!

At the beginning of a long, hot summer, when many families are away, or planning an adventure away from all the day to day stresses, you responded to our call or email and helped us balance the budget for Fiscal Year 2016-2017.

Imagine - You are walking out the doors after an energizing Shabbat service in the chapel. You come to the first row of bricks and notice for the first time that the brick you purchased in memory of your mother is installed less than one or two brick away from her closest friend. The circle of life continues.

We are grateful to our Board members who helped remind people that the sale of bricks was our fundraiser for 2016-17. We hope congregants and friends will continue to buy bricks and help us to complete the Pathway to Joy. We also look forward to the new garden and the renovations to our sukkah.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,
Lisa Finkelstein
President

(To clarify, bricks will continue to be sold after June 30th.  However, only those who submitted their orders by June 30th will be contributing to the Fiscal 2016-17 fundraiser.  And only those orders submitted by June 30th will be guaranteed that their bricks are in place by Sukkot.)
