Keeping you up to date on the many ways Beverly Bootstraps provides critical resources to families and individuals so they may achieve self-sufficiency.
The Hourly Income You Need to Afford Rent

"Full-time workers who make a minimum wage can't afford a two-bedroom rental home in any state in the U.S. without spending more than the recommended 30 percent of their income, according to a report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition."

At the 6th highest, Massachusetts workers need to make $27.39 per hour to rent the average two-bedroom apartment here. Not even sharing a dual income with a minimum wage-earning partner would cover the cost. Residents need to work 100 hours per week at minimum wage to cover the average two-bedroom rent in MA.

At Beverly Bootstraps, we provide assistance with food and utilities to allow our clients to allocate more of their hard earned money toward their rent. We also help them become qualified for higher paying jobs through our adult education programs.

Exciting news:

The Spring Gala will be back!
We are happy to announce that the gala will be happening again this spring.  This year's planning committee will be headed up by four new co-chairs. We welcome Jessica Lenci, Amy Bottomley Cavilla, Caroline Esdaile and Erin Deegan to the role and know they will do a wonderful job coordinating another fun and exciting event. Once the date and theme are firmed up, you will be the first to know!

How you can help:

Backpack and school supply donations
The Back-to-School Bonanza, a program that supplies local children in need with brand new back packs and supplies to start their school year off right, is in need of donations.  If you, your company or organization is interested in donating to this program, please contact Heather Johnston at  hjohnston@BeverlyBootstraps.org  or 978-927-1561.

Please don't leave donations if we are closed
Recently, we have received many donations to the Thrift Shop, including large pieces of furniture, that have been left outside during hours we are closed.  If donations are left outside, and Mother Nature has her way, many of the items get ruined and need to be thrown away.  This ends up costing us money in staff time to clean up the area and extra trash fees to have the large pieces taken away.

Additionally, there are many people who visit our building even during closed hours.  They see the donations left outside, and thinking they are going in the trash, go through them and take them home.

Either scenario prevents us from putting the items to good use in the Shop and actually costs us money, instead of providing us with income from the sale of the items.  We fund the many programs and services we offer to those in-need in our community with the proceeds from the Thrift Shop.

We appreciate your kindness and thinking of Beverly Bootstraps, however when donations are left outside, we often do not see the direct result of your generosity. If you have donations, please call ahead to make sure we are open or visit our website to check our daily hours. Also keep in mind that we can only accept items that are re-sellable: stain, rip and smoke free, in-season and in working condition. And we offer free pick up of furniture and certain household items. For more information, click here.
Thank you!
