February 5, 2018
From Our Principal

Good morning WHS families,

There has been a lot of things happening as we navigate into February I would like to recognize our Westlake "Techmates" who won the top three places in the Cuyahoga County Model Home Design contest. This year's student contest theme was "The Great Modern Frank Lloyd Wright Spec House." A special congratulations to the Westlake High School team of Katie Willi, Ethan Simon, Robert Fulop and Scott Rennard who took first place and the overall grand prize, winning the $1000 scholarship. They also won the specialty categories of "Best Model," "Best Presentation," "Best Smart Home Technology," "Best Green Building" and the coveted "Architectural Design Award of Merit."

The scheduling window for the 2018/2019 upperclassmen closed last Friday.  I encourage you to reach out to your child to ensure that they scheduled their classes.  If there are questions, please see the "Counselor Corner" section of today's E-blast or contact your student 's School Counselor.  If students do not schedule their classes after our attempts to contact them, then we will be forced to schedule their classes for them as we prepare for the 2018/2019 school year.

This past week we had a tremendous event that featured our Westlake Demon Athletic Booster  (WDAB) organization.  We hosted a spaghetti dinner, announced our Hall of Fame Class of 2018, and opened the School Spirit Store.  A special thank you to Mrs. Gina Redinger, Mrs. Fawn Carson, and Mrs. Kelly Ilg for all of their hard work making this store a reality!

Conferences at Westlake High School are set for Wednesday, February 14 from 8:00 am-3:00 pm. You can sign up for conferences here.  Counselors are also available to meet with families to discuss any concerns or questions that you may have.

As a reminder, 1st period starts at 7:50 a.m., which means that students need to be in their class at 7:50.  We have noticed a rise in tardies the past three weeks. This has resulted in many more consequences being distributed.  If the chronic tardies to school continue to be an issue, we may discuss an automatic "Friday School" option for repeated offenders.   Friday School runs from 3:15 p.m.- 6:15 p.m. Please discuss this with your student and contact us with questions.

This week is School Counselors Week!  We want to thank Mrs. Bail, Mrs. Jerome, Mr. Campo, Mr. Kennedy and Mrs. Frazier for all that they do for the students and families at Westlake High School!

As always, I encourage you to review the WHS announcements - t hey are a great source of information that are updated daily.  I also encourage all families to review the Westlake City Schools Profile - i t is filled with lots of information related to our school district.  And lastly, important dates relating to our students are listed below.

Have a wonderful week!
