Kudos
How often do we get the chance to show young employees how much we appreciate their creative energy and commitment to the nonprofit sector?

The CanDo Spirit Award recognizes the outstanding work of one young, full-time Napa County nonprofit employee. The honor comes with a $1000 cash prize generously sponsored by the  Napa Valley Vintners.

ANY Napa County nonprofit may nominate, whether they're involved in CanDo's Give!Guide or not.

There are two parts to the application process, one for the nominating NPO and one to be completed by the nominee. Click here for applications. Both are due June  30, 2017.

COMPOST  CORNER:
NO  FOG  DOWN  THE  DRAIN
(Nix to Fat, Oil, Grease)

FOG can cause clogged sewer lines, leading to sewage overflows that contaminate our homes, streets and creeks. Helping to prevent sewer overflows and back-ups is easy.

Here's what you CanDo:

*  Never pour fats, oil or grease down the drain.

*  Don't put fatty food scraps down the disposal.

*  Collect fats and grease in a can and dispose in the compost pail.

*  Scrape food scraps into the compost pail.

*  Dry wipe pots and pans containing grease with paper towels before washing. The paper towels can go in compost.

*  Take used cooking oil (also fat and grease) to the Hazardous Waste Collection Facility or Devlin Rd. Reuse and Recycle Center.  Find a map here . This service is free.

Email questions about Curbside Composting or recycling to the Compost Corner. We'll get responses to your questions from
Tim Dewey-Mattia,  Napa Recycling   and Waste Services

The Choices We Make

Napa Valley CanDo seeks to inspire and facilitate action  by alerting interested Valley residents about opportunities for service. If you participate as a volunteer in an activity that you learned about through Napa Valley CanDo, whether initiated by CanDo or another organization, please take personal responsibility for your involvement. Use common sense. Only you can determine whether an activity is a good fit, that is to say  compatible with your interests and abilities.
