City seeks volunteers to help with playground project

Tukwila Parks and Recreation is the recipient of a KaBOOM! playground grant, funded by Foresters Financial.  A new playground will be installed at Cascade View Community Park on Saturday, July 8.  Cascade View is one of Tukwila's most frequented and played-in parks - children and adults alike gather there to socialize, play games, and enjoy the park's amenities.  Play is central to a child's ability to grow into a productive adult. Let's ensure kids get the balance of play they need to thrive!

To make this happen, we are working to secure 160 volunteers to help with the build and installation of the playground.  Are you available on July 8?  Would you like to help make the park a better place for kids to play?  All you need is a go-getter attitude and a smile - no playground building experience is necessary.  We are also seeking volunteers to be team leaders - again, there is no experience necessary except the desire to lead and motivate a team.  In addition to the big build day, there is a site preparation day on Thursday, July 6, when approximately 30-40 volunteers will be needed.  More information:
  • Volunteers should be age 18+
  • Volunteers will assemble playground pieces, mix concrete, move mulch, help with food, play games with kids, and much more.
  • Volunteers should wear closed toe shoes and comfortable clothes you don't mind getting dirty; leave valuables at home.
  • Youth activities provided.
  • Gloves, goggles, breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Please join us and show that play matters to you!   Register to volunteer at TukwilaWA.gov/kaboom.

Remember, all fireworks are illegal in the City of Tukwila.  Persons caught lighting fireworks will be issued citations, and this year the Tukwila Police and Fire Departments will engage in enhanced enforcement leading up to and on July 4.  Fireworks lead directly to injuries and fires, please do your part and refrain from using them. To report illegal fireworks, dial 911.

You are encouraged, however, to join your neighbors and friends at the FREE Family 4th at the Fort, hosted by the City of Tukwila every year at Fort Dent Park.  The park opens at 9:00 a.m. with festivities beginning at 4:00 p.m.  The amazing firework show starts at 10:00 p.m.  Bring the family and come down Fort Dent and enjoy the fun.  We hope to see you there!

For those residents that pay their water, sewer or storm drain bill through the City of Tukwila, we have implemented a new automated phone payment system or IVR (Interactive Voice Response).  You will need your 10 digit account number to use this automated system.

To make a payment by phone, please call 206-433-1835 and listen to the menu of options.  The system has step-by-step instructions and does require you to confirm information entered before proceeding.  At any time you can hang up and the payment will not process.
