Army PaYS Program
Nevada Builders is proud to announce our partnership with the U.S. Army and it's Army Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) program.  The PaYS program is designed to help soldiers prepare for a career after the Army by partnering with organizations and industries that understand the skills, discipline and work ethic that military service members bring to a business. To learn more, click here. To post open positions with the Army PaYS program, contact Pam Duxbury: 882-4353 or [email protected]

YouthBuild
Nevada Builders is happy to work with the Children's Cabinet and Community Services Agency (CSA) and the YouthBuild Program. This program, funded by a $1.1 million grant from the U.S. Dept. of Labor, provides qualifying youth (ages 16-24) with educational & construction skills training, leadership training, mentorship and career counseling. Upon completion, participants have completed their High School Equivalency (HSE) and OSHA 10, among other certifications and are ready to join the workforce. We are looking for employers from all sectors of the construction industry to hire these young, energetic and motivated individuals so that they can have a long and productive career in construction. The program is also always looking for mentors, speakers, site visits and material donations. If you would like to hire a recent YouthBuild graduate or can assist in any way, contact Pam Duxbury:  882-4353 or [email protected]

Safety and Smartphone Technology

Smartphone use has steadily grown over the last decade. The safety community has recognized this growth and found constructive ways to incorporate this everyday device into positive safety practices.
Safety and compliance inspections require attention to detail. The still and video camera features of smartphones have proven to be very useful in this respect. You can capture real time violations and use them to mitigate the hazards recognized or address workplace behaviors. Using the gridlines is another useful feature of the camera when needing to recall specifics.
Safety committees and safety meetings are often at a disadvantage due to multiple job sites and crew locations. Smartphones have shortened the distance between safety committee members and employees. With apps like Facetime, Skype, and Google Hangouts, just to name a few, they have made organizing meetings easier than ever before. The safety message can be conveyed from a single source in a timely manner. This also allows crew-specific and site-specific sign in sheets to be completed and turned in at a more convenient time.
Nevada's unique landscape and wide-open spaces can create complicated situations, for example, lone workers on jobsites. Issues associated with lone workers can be as simple as no other workers or managers to assist the worker in the event something goes wrong. In situations such as these there are several apps that are available; the downside being they require a signal. Should the job site not have cell service it is best to consider a physical device that is GPS centered.
The team at PGM Safety Services is available to help you create a plan. For assistance, please contact PGM Safety Services, an affiliate company of Pro Group Management, and we will be happy to assist. You can visit us at www.pgmnv.com or call (800) 859-3177.
