August 2017
Greetings!

Almost everyone appreciates new experiences. As we near the end of summer and embark on busy schedules in the new season, I encourage you to take a break and explore the region. Precinct 4’s Senior Adult Program, with the aid of generous private donations to the Fun4Seniors nonprofit, offers dozens of trips every month to areas within a 150-mile radius of Houston.

Give school-age children the opportunity to explore Precinct 4 parks by participating in field trips and after-school activities. And the whole family can enjoy spending time together at upcoming special events across the precinct. I hope to see you soon on a new adventure!

As a reminder, you can access past issues of Commissioner's E-Corner on the Precinct 4 website.  Visit Precinct 4 online to learn more about our road projects and upcoming events available through our community centers, parks department, and Senior Adult Program.

Improvements Planned at Alabonson Park

Spring Branch residents can look forward to new amenities at Alabonson Park, thanks to funding from Precinct 4 and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. The park is owned by the city of Houston, but will be maintained and operated by Precinct 4.

New features at the 50-acre multi-use park will include lighted soccer, softball, and football fields, parking lots, maintenance facilities, picnic areas, and playgrounds, as well as paved and natural surface trails that could one day connect to additional trail systems. The project is currently in the design phase with no estimated completion. Stay tuned for more details!

Tips for Parents and Teachers

For parents with young children, the first day of school can be unpredictable.

Children who select their first-day-of-school outfit a month in advance can unexpectedly turn into children who refuse to get out of bed, miss the bus, or cry in the car line. Help your child ease back into school by focusing on positive activities.

Drum up excitement by discussing potential special events or field trips the teacher has planned. You may even consider suggesting locations to your child’s teacher. Teachers are always on the lookout for new and exciting field trip locations.

Capital Improvement Projects Update

Precinct 4 plans to widen the last remaining segment of Spring Stuebner at I-45 from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane concrete segment to ease traffic congestion. Currently, the project is in the bid and award phase. Once a contractor is selected, the project will take approximately 60 days to complete. Completion of this segment finalizes the project to expand Spring Stuebner from Kuykendahl Road to I-45.
