We're happy to report that things are going swimmingly here on the sandbar. Not only is the pledge drive doing wonders to balance our checkbook, sections of the outer beach are open again and the weather is delightful as well. Things are also sunny and bright when it comes to our many partnerships with our fellow arts organizations. With new relationships developing nearly every day, it feels great to join hands with other non-profits across the Cape to spread creativity and joy throughout the land (and sea). You're invited to give us a hand and join us on our mission of entertainment and education. Become a member today; the benefits are priceless.

Towel Off In Style

Don't miss out on the latest addition to our dry goods catalog. It's another in a long line of Ellen Lebow designs and it's the fourth beach towel we've offered. Get yours while it's still hot. We'd be happy to send you one when you become a member at the Sustaining Level of $15/mo. or a one-time payent of $180. Complete your set or start your collection of WOMR swag today.

Getting Smarter Every Day

At least we can set lofty goals for ourselves. We're proud to say that Executive Director John Braden will be working towards those goals as he enrolls in the Institute for Nonprofit Practice Core Certificate Program in the fall. It'll be back to school for the boss as he develops the tools and networks needed to steer this ship in the right direction. This will be the second time the program is offered on Cape Cod, and John will have the chance to work with other leaders of non-profit organizations from across the Cape and Islands as they hone their skills and generate strategies for ensuring organizational sustainability. We've come a long way over the years, and we fully expect this program to help take us even further.
Program Notes

We won't have Sound Suggestions for you anymore. Some may question whether our suggestions were ever sea-worthy, but there can be no doubt that Rodman Reeve has hosted the last edition of his radio show which occupied alternate Wednesday nights for the last good number of years. Not as many years as some, but a good number nevertheless. And a damn fine radio show too. We'll miss Rodman's version of progressive jazz, but we hope to have someone else to fill that slot shortly. Stu Murray continues to present his show, Bebop And Beyond, on the other Wednesday nights from 9 to midnight.

Changes have been afoot on Sunday nights since Rhonda moved to Wednesday mornings and Kevin has been away for the summer. We expect to settle on a regular schedule on Sunday nights once fall rolls around, but in the meantime you can enjoy new DJ T-Mac on occasional Sunday nights from 9 to midnight as he puts his version of hip-hop flava in ya ear. It's always exciting to get a new sound on the air, and nobody else is doing it like this guy. Check it out if hip-hop is your bag or you think it might be.

Speaking of seasonal arrangements, the summer means that Murph has returned to the airwaves to hold down the midnight Thursday to Friday 2am shift. Tune in as the Magnificent Seven delivers punk and post-punk nuggets for your late night listening pleasure. Another sign of summer is the return of Shanty Roots to Wednesday nights at midnight. Kevin is bringin' it JA style to the microphone, and you won't hear anything like it anywhere else on the dial. We couldn't be happier to have him represent the Caribbean element of our community.

Partners On Parade

Actually, the Provincetown Carnival Parade rolls around on Thursday August 17, when we will try to continue our streak of winning entries in the procession. In the meantime, there's no shortage of shows to catch from Ptown to Harwich and beyond. We couldn't be prouder of our partners and all they do to maintain the tremendous tradition of artistic expression on the Cape. The Payomet Performing Arts Center and the Cape Cod Melody Tent bring unprecedented musical talent to our area, while Harbor Stage, WHAT, Peregrine Theatre Ensemble, Provincetown Theater, Cape Cod Theatre Company, and Cape Rep Theatre (among many others) present the finest in traditional and cutting edge theater on a nightly basis throughout the summer. Don't forget that Cape Cinema and the Provincetown Film Society do more than enough to pique the interest of the film buffs coming off the beach. Surf over to the events calendar on our website to see what's going on at all these venues and more.

If it's a little community radio flavor you seek, be sure to catch Matty Dread as he takes the music to Main Street Orleans as part of the Orleans Police Department block party on Wednesday August 16 from 5 to 10pm. Across the pond in Plymouth, there'll be a showing of the feature length documentary, Outermost Radio: The Film, on Sunday October 15 at the Spire Performing Arts Center. We hear the place is beautiful, and we know they've been doing great things to bring art to life in Plymouth, so we look forward to spending a little time with our neighbors from the mainland. Keep your ears peeled for future announcements about an event at Preservation Hall featuring local favorites Ira Wood and Susan Blood. Most of all, keep the radio on!
