Prayer

Proper 12
O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom
nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon
us your mercy; that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may so
pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal;  through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you  and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.

Announcements from the Office of the Bishop:

Prayers for Peter Pereira
Peter Pereira has been a fixture in the Office of the Bishop, serving as the Diocesan Treasurer for over 25 years, but his responsibilities have extended far beyond your typical treasurer duties, making him an invaluable member of the staff.

Several months ago, Peter's kidney function became dangerously low and he is now on dialysis. At the time of this writing, Peter's brother was scheduled to fly into Honolulu for testing as a possible transplant donor.  Please keep Peter and his family in your prayers.

The Bishop asks for your understanding as the office makes adjustments to accommodate the many different areas of responsibility that Peter covers. Rae Costa, the Business Manager, will be assisting Peter with some of his duties on the "business" side of the office, and Danny Casey, the new bookkeeper, will assist on the financial side. Peter is confident that with Rae and Danny in place, he can concentrate on his health.

Prayer offered by the Bishop:
Strengthen your servant Peter, O God, to do what he has to do and bear what he has to bear; that, accepting your healing gifts through the skill of doctors and nurses, he may be restored to usefulness in your world with a thankful heart; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Danny Casey is New Bookkeeper
The Office of the Bishop is pleased to welcome Danny Casey as the Diocesan Bookkeeper. Casey brings with him extensive experience on the financial side of non-profit organizations and will be of tremendous assistance with some of Peter's responsibilities.  Casey can be reached via e-mail at dcasey@episcopalhawaii.org or call (808) 536-7776, ext. 306.

Aloha and welcome Danny!

Anglican Primate Joins Christian Leaders in Jerusalem in Calling for Calm at Holy Site
[Episcopal News Service] Leaders of the Christian churches in Jerusalem, including the Anglican primate, have called for peace and reconciliation amid tensions at a shared holy site in the city, as the Israel government backs down from a standoff over stricter security measures there.

Archbishop Suheil Dawani, primate of the  Anglican Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East, joined 12 other patriarchs and heads of churches in Jerusalem  in issuing a statement last week to "express our serious concern regarding recent escalation in violent developments around Haram ash-Sharif and our grief for the loss of human life, and strongly condemn any act of violence."

The statement also affirms the church leaders' support for existing agreements between Israel and Jordan to jointly maintain holy sites that are revered and frequented by both Jews and Muslims.

"We renew our call that the historical status quo governing these sites be fully respected, for the sake of peace and reconciliation to the whole community, and we pray for a just and lasting peace in the whole region and all its peoples," the statement concludes.
