Regina Indian Industrial School Cemetery Designated as Provincial Heritage Property
The Regina Indian Industrial School (RIIS) Cemetery was officially designated as a Provincial Heritage Property. The announcement was made at the former RIIS site, which is located on the outskirts of Regina on Pinkie Road.
RIIS operated between 1891 and 1910 and an unknown number of students died there. It is believed there are between  22 to 40 unmarked graves of children in the cemetery. SaskCulture's Engage magazine featured a story a couple of years ago on the making of Janine Windolph and Trudy Stewart's documentary about RIIS.
