"Slice of Talent": Pie & Talent Auction

Do you bake a mean dessert? Are you an artist in hiding? Are you handy at home-improvement projects? Have a passionate hobby you would be willing to share? EVERYONE has a talent and we need you!

Once again, we will be auctioning off "people" and their talents on Friday, October 13th. This year, all proceeds will be going to support our local Community Mental Health Fund initiated by the Gilead Congregational Church, Board of Missions after the tragic events that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December of 2012.

We would like to get a head start this year getting our auction items together. If you have a talent, trade or handmade item that you would be willing to donate and put up to auction for this worthy cause, please sign-up on the sheet provided below the name tags or drop off your item(s) to Sally Fritsche at the Parish House, Tuesday - Thursday anytime between 8 am and noon. Thank you for your support!

Hebron Harvest Fair Parking Fundraiser - Saturday, September 9th

We have been offered the opportunity to staff the parking at the Lion's Hebron Harvest Fair this year on Saturday, September 9th.  The parking is at their large lot and we will be responsible for staffing it all day.  In the past, the Lions have made a donation of $2,600 to the group who does this.

We feel this is a great opportunity for us to raise some extra funds.

Now, we need to provide volunteers to help on September 9th.  The time slots to help are as follows:
6:30 - 8:00 a.m.
8:00 - Noon
Noon to 4:00 p.m.
4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
8:00 to 10:00 p.m.
10:00 p.m. - Midnight

We invite families with children in middle or high school to consider taking a slot as a family during the day.  We would like adults only in the evening (from 8 p.m. to midnight).

Barry MacLachlan will be there all day to represent the Gilead Church and his cell is 860-604-0963 if you need to contact him.  Staff from the Lion's will also be there too to assist.  Water will also be provided.

When you go, you should arrive 15 minutes prior to your shift and enter at Gate B and proceed to the Lions' Parking Area behind the pulling ring to sign in.  It is important that you sign in, so we get acknowledgment of your volunteering.

We'll send out a reminder with all the details to everyone who signs up closer to September 9th.

If you can take one of the slots, please sign up on the sheet posted underneath the name tags or by contacting the Church Office at 860-228-3077.

Please also feel free to spread the word to friends who may be willing to join you or help.  It doesn't have to staffed by all Gilead Church members and friends.  We just need to fill the slots.

Thank you!

Garden Swap

Our Annual Garden Swap is in full swing!  Please bring in any extra produce from your gardens to the Fellowship Hall on Sunday to share. Any leftovers will be taken to Hebron Interfaith Human Services for their distribution.  Questions can go to Paul Miller and Bruce Langevin.

Wednesday Morning Book Discussion Group

The Wednesday Morning Book Discussion Group will resume meeting on Wednesday September 6th at the home of Judy Brown and Deena Watson (130 Charles Lane).  The group meets from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday mornings. They will begin the season reading "A Gentleman in Moscow" by Towle. All are welcome!

Thank You

Dear Pastor Denise and Gilead Congregational Church Members,

Thank you so much for all of your thoughts and prayers during my mom's illness and passing. Your kindness and support during this very difficult time is greatly appreciated. My heart is glad that we belong to such a caring Church in Gilead.

With love,

Kari and Jim Burgess & family

To the weavers, knitters, crocheters of prayer shawls at the Gilead Congregational Church,

I was touched when Margot Sheehan presented me with the absolutely gorgeous shawl. It is cozy, comfortable and comforting around my shoulders. But mostly it is visible reminder of care and love and prayer power. It is so much easier to travel this road surrounded by the love of family and friends, and yes, people I have never met.

Thanks so much. I am taking you with me on this journey.

Jane Carroll

Thank you to all those who supported our back to school drive!  We were able to share over a $1,000 worth of supplies and healthy snacks with our local food bank, HIHS, as well as RHAM Middle and High School. It is a great blessing to be able to send young people back to school with a wonderful start!

Scripture Reading and Prayer for the Week
Matthew 15: 10-28

Faithful God, you draw near to us in our joy and in our grief, in our hope and in our despair.  When we are bowed down, you raise us anew.  God of compassion and love, open our eyes, dispel our fears, and show us the abundant life you offer; in the name of Jesus the Christ we pray.  Amen.
