Endowment Fund Update
The St. Anne's Endowment Fund was launched in 2015 with the goal of preparing and investing for the long-term future of St. Anne's.  Thanks to your generosity, the Endowment status as of June 30, 2017, is as follows:

Number of gifts: 94 from 99 people
Number of bequests promised: 51
Number of bequests received: 0
Expenses to date: $1,190

We are within $4,000 of our initial goal of $250K!

You can make a gift now or leave instructions for a bequest to the fund in your will or living trust. No minimum amount is required to make a commitment to the fund. You will automatically be welcomed into the St. Anne's Society. For more information please call the church office at 703-437-6530 or contact the endowment fund chair Jim Jones. Movies that make ME think!
Every Sunday evening in July join us for our member-curated summer series, Movies That Make ME Think! We asked members of St. Anne's to select and talk about their favorite movies and they've come up with a wonderful collection of movies. The movies will start around 6pm with your pot-luck donations, no pizza in the summer. Each week we'll watch a movie and discuss it with the person who recommended it. Space is limited so please reserve your seat as soon as possible at

Back to School Backpacks for Kids in Need
Each summer St. Anne's partners with Cornerstones' back-to-school backpack drive by collecting backpacks for children in the Herndon/Reston area.  Backpacks are provided to children who qualify for free or reduced-fee lunches and whose families often have to make a choice between food and bills or school supplies.  Please consider picking up a quality backpack, available in many stores during the summer, while you're out doing errands. If we each bring one we can make a substantial contribution to the drive and can greatly help a a family in need. They're looking for good quality backpacks in the following sizes:

High School Size 20"H x 14"W x 7"D (this is the area with the most need)
Middle School Size 18"H x 13" W x 6"D
Elementary School Size 16"H x 12"W x 5"D

Drop them off here at St. Anne's in the bin in the Narthex and we'll get them delivered.

Thanks!
Stephanie Hando

Our 2017 Shrine Mont Parish Retreat Needs You!
We are creating a retreat weekend that appeals to all ages and to do that we are planning to offer multiple activities during various times over the weekend.  Are you great at making beaded necklaces and bracelets? Do you play an instrument and would love to lead a sing-along?  Can you teach magic tricks?  Lead a hike?  Teach others how to knit? Organize a soccer game?  These are just examples; what is something you love to do and would be willing to teach or experience with others?

Send ideas of what you are willing to lead by Sunday, August 20 to Mother Laura.

Monday Book Group Discussion
Our next meeting is Monday, September 18th at 12:30 p.m. The meeting will be located at CafĂ© Montmartre.

Evicted by Matthew Desmond
In Evicted, Harvard sociologist and MacArthur "Genius" Matthew Desmond follows eight families in Milwaukee as they struggle to keep a roof over their heads. Hailed as "wrenching and revelatory" (The Nation), "vivid and unsettling" (New York Review of Books), Evicted transforms our understanding of poverty and economic exploitation while providing fresh ideas for solving one of 21st-century America's most devastating problems. Its unforgettable scenes of hope and loss remind us of the centrality of home, without which nothing else is possible
